I haven't been online these past couple of days so it was really nice to check in and see this thread - and some of you even sent me electronic cards! What a great birthday!

Yes, today *was* my 36th birthday (you were right, sharon) - not much longer to the big four-oh. Ruth took off work yesterday (that was her birthday present to me) so we went out to eat and made the rounds to quite a few garden nurseries (one of my favorite past-times).

Of course I *had* to buy a few perennials... I bought two varieties of bee balm, one butterfly weed, a cardinal flower, and a meadow sage. Plus I bought one of those "gazing balls" for one of our flower gardens. The one I bought is cobalt-blue glass (not the silvered glass of the common gazing balls) so it looks beautiful in with the blazing star and yellow coneflowers. Ruth also bought a butterfly bush - we try to overwinter them each year but they never make it... but we keep trying.

We also had a visit today from a friend that we made through Countryside Contacts years ago. We hadn't seen her in over a year so it was nice seeing her and hearing about her grandkids as well as what has been going on in her life.

Ruth and I may go to a movie tomorrow or we may hold off and do that next weekend. I know we have plenty of stuff to keep us busy here at home tomorrow with all these perennials we bought! :-)
