Offiong.......two in two

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The boy seem to be coping with the senior-level quite well. Two matches with the reserves, and he already has two goals to his name. Is this the big step for him into senior football ??

i was saying this last year, i bet he makes it bigger than Chopra. The telling thing is 25 yarder goal, confidence!

Too young, He's only 17. Nice to see him skip the under 19s and along with Chopra, playing in the reserves. Perhaps next season he might get a squad number.

he's got one hasn't he? i bet he plays in the first team this year. I'd play him in the Intertoto.

Keep him in the reserves for 6 months, if he's still scoring regularly then think about giving him a place on the bench, make them kick the door down if they wanna play senior football...

No, neither Chopra or Offiong have squad numbers .

but cowan has?

We need to groom them young !! If they have the talent they will do the buisness, but let him do a year in the reserves, and remember he was only a sub in both games, he hasnt played a full match yet and still 2 goals. Ok, the opposition wasnt the best but then again, you still need to put the ball behind the keeper.

At 17 he's not too young. Look at the likes of Owen, Jeffers, Heskey etc who were playing 1st team football at 16/17. I say give the likes of Chopra, Offiong, McDermott a place on the bench of a worthy cup match or something. 10-15mins at the end won't to them any harm

I'm of a similar opinion to TJC, if they're good enough then age isn't a factor, HOWEVER I don't think they should be getting anywhere near the first team squad yet....if they play BLINDERS for 6 months in the reserves then consider it but not until then....they've done NOWT yet...

If they're good enough they're old enough

i think we were resisting that chestnut Humphrey

I'm with the general consensus, that if they're good enough they're old enough. But let's not get carried away. Despite the obvious promise, they haven't proven they're good enough yet. Bit more time in the reserves yet...and let's also try to not show too much deperation for them to succeed and stop treating them as messiahs in the making ;-)

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2001

Quite so PM, we shouldn't be talking about Messiah's at this stage and I wouldn't want to hang millstones around a player's neck - but I can't help feeling we might have found The New Milburn... :-)

Jonno - where have you been? The New Milburn's been there for a season now. It's right next to the New Sir John Hall.

How, man. That's as jinxy as TIWY! :-)

Careful Bobby - it's unlucky to be superstitious....

Jonno, where are you? England?

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2001

No - Geordieland - that country to whose Southern border England is attached ....

I only ask coz you seem to contribute in a kind of "no mans land time" between 6 and 11pm Gmt which is noon and five my time. Plus it's friday neet, shouldn't you be on the hoy somewhere? It's usually dead quite on here in the afternoons for me. I appreciate the posts, keep it up bonny lad.

Right you are sonna, are you attending the festivities the morra? Hopefully I'll be able to wing mesell a weekend pass so I can get rid of the missus for a few hours, if not, then it's another day of shopping. Because she needs another pair of feckin shoes to go with the other 40 pair of black shoes she has.

A pair of feckin shoes? What does she do in those then? :-)
