Cartier-Bresson technique

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Awhile back there was some discussion of the Charlie Rose interview with HCB. In the article below, the interviewer says "he's seen old film" of him working. Does anyone have an idea if there is any archival footage available for viewing, he did use Leica afterall...

Has anyone read this?

There is a video tape by photograher Sarah Moon called, Henri Cartier Bresson, which shows him shooting in China, and I think, Russia. I bought mine off E-bay. Very intersting video for Bresson fans.

Jeff- I have e-mailed you personally with a more specific address, but for others interested in the video, check out www.photoeye.com. I cannot vouch for the quality or content, but I am going to order a copy.

It is a great video (IMO), which does not try to hide any of the 'crustiness' that HCB has become so well known for. At times he seems rude, but I soon realized it is probably just the attitude of someone who has been asked cloying questions countless times

Yes there's this tape by Sarah Moon where you see HCB making some photogaphs, not much though. Another good buy would be the film "Contacts " by Raymond Depardon after a William Klein idea where you see famous photographers comment their contact sheets. It comes as a dvd here in France with the first volume dedicated to William Klein - Henri Cartier Bresson - Raymond Depardon - Joseph Koudelka - Robert Doisneau - Edouard Boubat - Elliot Erwitt - Marc Riboud - Helmut Newton - Don McCullin and Léonard Freed. I don't know if the dvd has english subtitles but then you could learn a lot just looking at them. You can have those dvd through amazon.fr Hope this helps...
