27 August 1983....believe the wind was North North East with a light drizzle.

Softie you may have the year right, but I remember it being red hot, because some lads tried to start a fire on the grass banks since they were so dry.

Crowd 30806. The first match in the promotion year with Keegan Waddle and Pedro together - poetry. I'm sure Softie's meteorlogical information is accurate and I believe he will be getting back to you with the average inside leg measurement of the two teams in a short time.

Team: Carr, Anderson, Ryan, McCreery, Clarke, Carney, KK, McDonald, Mills, TerryMac, Waddler sub Wharton

A problem with the database at present, prevents me from telling you the price of the hot dogs at Elland Road on the day.

Actually, just glancing at that season, as one does, I notice we only used a total of 18 players during the entire season of 42 matches and one of those - Haddock - played a single match and 7 sub appearances. (Sub? Haddock? There's a joke in there somewhere but I'm a bit slow this evening.) So effectively, 17 players won us promotion - in those days a team had just one sub but it's still remarkable that we were able to survive injuries, suspensions etc. with just 5 spare players on any game.

Is this more information than you were needing? ...

Thanks jonno, I am suitably put in my place as it were. I still remember it being hot though, hence the grass bank fire. The windows were smashed on our bus and we were locked inside the ground for what seemed like ages.

Can anyone else verify that it was hot that day.

Hot you say Syme? Softie may well have to be hauled before the Stattos society to account for this one ....

listen I am not gonna get between softie and his stats, we all remember the slide rule incident, right? Plus my memory is like a sieve, I ve got more chance of retaining water!

Sorry folks, the meterological report was just a joke....I could tell you what was playing on the radio and what you would have seen on the telly and that I would have been playing a rugby match against Westerford High School in Cape Town at the time, but then my powers would be exhausted :-)

I think it was red hot too, stuck in a train by transport police, running to ground, disbelief at winning, if this was the game a later to be, World Cup penalty misser played the second half in goal
