Does anyone happen to know what size snap-on lens cap will fit the Leica 12538 50/2 lens hood?

I am assuming you mean a cap with two push button controlled clips that you want to go on the front of the mounted hood. I dod not havre the 12538 plastic hood but I do have the 12585 metal version which preceeded it. A E52 cap works OK. The Nikon ones grap fairly well but some aftermarket ones are a little loose. Go to your local camera store and try what they have to offer. E55 would be a better fit with a little filing of the hood.

Those hoods takes a 53mm snap-cap. I had a number of them custom- made to fit, which will also expand to fit the 12575 (90/135) hood. I can sell to anyone who wants to e-mail me off-list.

I purchased a used 50/2 with a 12585 hood and a 55mm snap on cap. It works great and the cap does not appear to be doctored in any way.
