how the hell does Alan Oliver do it?

This has to be one of his worst...

"Newcastle United have slapped in a £6 million bid for West Ham winger Trevor Sinclair.

And I understand that the former England Under-21 international 75 years ago is prepared to come to St James's Park. understand, please elaborate

But United face a tough task in persuading their former skipper Glenn Roeder, who is now in charge at Upton Park, to sell the versatile 28-year-old.

United's bid went in after chairman Freddie Shepherd talked to England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson about Sinclair in Lokeren before Saturday's Intertoto Cup tie.

Sinclair, who despite being born and bred in London started his career with Blackpool, was actually in the England squad for the friendly with Belgium at Sunderland in October 1999.getting exciting

But a knee injury brought a temporary halt to his international ambitions.perfect then

What United like about the player West Ham bought from Queens Park Rangers in January 1998, is his versatility.who says this, Bobby?

He can play as an out-and-out winger either on the left or right and also as a wing-back.

But they know that Roeder has to tread carefully in the transfer market with West Ham under fire for selling their two biggest stars Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard in recent months.thanks for that

And now they are finding it difficult to hang on to their French striker Frederick Kanoute.French... However, Roeder is looking to buy and he is trying to lure Josep Guardiola to London after the experienced Spanish international decided to leave Barcelona at the end of last season.can you buy a free thing?

Bobby Robson himself toyed with the idea of trying to sign his one-time skipper at the Nou Camp but felt that the £60,000 a week wages were too much for a player whose best days are behind him.how do you know?your sister paper says he was knocked back by him..,

Robson and Shepherd have a few irons in the fire in the transfer market at the moment and they are hoping to pull off at least a couple of deals.seeing as you know so much, tell us who then?

However, United have made a lot of mistakes in the transfer market in the last few seasons and they will not be panicked into buying before they have done their homework, as they have in the case of Sinclair. if they have, then why are they buying him?ageing and injury prone.

If they can get Sinclair then

then there is less need to bring in French striker Laurent Robert. hang on, you said United liked his versatility, and you say Robert is a striker

Paris St Germain are ready to sell Robert to United for £10 million and it looks as though the player was waiting to see if anyone else was interested in him before deciding that he is now prepared to come.

...is now prepared to come... But United have experienced one disaster after another whenever they have brought a French player to St James's Park. so why did they go for him in the first place if they don't trust Frenchies? David Ginola tried to organise a move to Barcelona behind Kevin Keegan's back,

Stephane Guivarc'h flopped and Franck Dumas stayed only a couple of months.

And, of course, Alain Goma asked for a transfer after just one season at St James's and Didier Domi walked out on them.run that past me again...

lazy lazy stuff that tries to tease. Awful.

I agree he's ageing and injury prone. So was Duncan Ferguson - maybe a pattern is emerging. I hope not.
