Ronnie reporting Sinclair for 6mil

A lot of wonga but you know what we'll be getting. Not much chance of recouping any of the outlay so he will effectively be costing us a lot every week.

I've always liked him but he can't be a young man any more. How old is he?

At least if we sign Sinclair it'll presumably keep Matt Hughes or wahetever his name is happy. Another ageing player with a last chance at proving something. ;-)

Hhmm! 28 I believe I read somewhere.

Clubcall reported at 10:45am that we have had a £5mm bid for Sinclair rejected, but may come back with an increased bid.

Right Club - wrong player??

5 years too late. i wouldn't touch him now with a barge stick. This smacks of desperation. Sadly a mid table player for a mid table club. I would rather hold onto the cash. Sinclair is an above average player, no doubt. But this is too much money for him. 3 mil and it'd be sensible business. Effectively we will have 12 million for two questionable purchases. Madness.

i once saw Sinclair in Berkeley Square, i thought he was Chris Eubank! he was wearing country gent clothes. Should fit in well with the ageing players looking for a comfortable place to see out their careers.

I hope Stephen Glass doesn't injure himself falling down laughing. I shall be following his progress with interest.

He is basically a right winger who has played in numerous positions throughout his injury prone career. I don't think we need another run of the mill midfielder. We need a quality left winger and he isn't one.

I suspect that BR isn't really that interested in him , just using him as a decoy for our real target.

better ask Alan...

How could he be a decoy?

Tribalfootball report we've signed him:

Newcastle land £6M winger Sinclair

English Football 19/7/01

Newcastle United will unveil winger Trevor Sinclair today as their new £6 million signing. The former England U21 international agreed terms with manager Bobby Robson yesterday and moves from West Ham United.

Robson, who has also captured Craig Bellamy and Robbie Elliott, has spent £12 million on new summer signings so far and hopes Sinclair's capture will convince star turn Kieron Dyer to stay at the club.

Robson turned to Sinclair after missing out on Barcelona winger Boudewijn Zenden and PSG's Laurent Robert.

Funny one this, especially the alleged involvement of Sven Goran. No doubting that he was an exceptional talent when younger, but his injury record and failure to realise his potential cast a shadow over him. Again, £6M seems a lot - I'm just hoping Sven and Bobby know something we don't. I hope he adjusts to life outside London as well - I always assumed his over lengthy stay at QPR was due to him wanting to stay in London.

Can he play on the left?

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2001

Didn't he turn us down before when he went to West Ham. I seem to remember Dalglish tried to sign him.

From Teamtwaddle "However, Hammers managing director Paul Aldridge has categorically denied that Sinclair will be leaving east London and says reports that Newcastle have even made an offer for the England squad player are untrue. He said: "Trevor Sinclair is very happy here. I don't see why he would want to leave West Ham, to go to Newcastle or anywhere else - especially Newcastle." (I didn't like the "especially Newcastle" bit, Ed)
