Are they on sale yet ? How much ?

Metal would be an improvement over those plastic viewfinders.

It is starting to become more and more available. Several people on the various Leica web hideouts have purchased them. It is quite a bit larger than the single focal length finders. Let me know if you still feel the same way about plastic when you bump your new finder against something and it bends your hotshoe and top plate.

I have ranted and raved about this before but here goes again :-). Having owned both, the plastic finders are much better. They are lighter, brighter (than the old metal ones) and less likely to get or cause damage if they get bumped or dropped. The metal finders were always working loose and falling off while I have never had a plastic finder do that. Leica can repair broken plastic finders (contrary to some posted opinions) depending on how bad the damage is. Heck it is easy to do yourself as well!

So send me your unwanted and unloved plastic finders! I will give them a loving home.

Cheers,

I have one, and it is superb! Its downside is it has full frame viewing with no bright lines though. I paid $375 US for mine. If anybody wants a silver one, I'll sell mine as I'd prefer a black one.

Agree with John on this one. Ten years ago (or so) I dropped and M4 with metal viewfinder attached. At the time the repair was $75.00 for rangefinder calibration, a new lens hood, a new finder, but as well over $350.00 to take out the dent on the top plate and replace the flash shoe.

Don't like plastic because when it gets old it becomes brittle and cracks.

Could not bring myself to pay for those expensive plastic viewfinders and never did buy a single one . Made me wonder if the lens was plastic too.............a plastic Leica lens....yeech ! Having the new 3 sizes in one metal contraption for less than the price of 3 sounds a good deal, 5 element lens too !

If you drop a Leica, remember to instantly pick it up and take a self portrait to capture the moment, its bound to be an expressive pic ! If you missed the moment, drop it again...........

My oldest plastic finder was twenty years old. It had no cracks and was clear as a bell despite the usual wear, tear and knocking about. My black metal one went from mint to user in one nanosecond as it fell off the camera to the ground. I sold the metal finder while the optics were still fine.

Went down to the local camera shop to have a look.

Yep, they have some chrome ones at US$222-(this is Singapore) but no black ones.

The contraption is a beauty. Very clear view. Comes in a cute cylindrical leather case like the lenses.

Not much chance of it dropping as there is a circular disc that you can tighten down, much like the flash unit.

I'll wait for the black one.
