Russell Cushing's comments are quite interesting actually - notably claiming that there are 10000 on the waiting list.

And judging by how I can't get thro' to the ticket office (and I have been trying every 5 minutes since yesterday morning!) We will have sold out for the Intertoto cup match too !!!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Amazing - and utterly fantastic. Geordie pride!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Still a big drop but not as bad as everyone feared :))

Kats, i'm still having the same trouble...have been trying constantly since yesterday morning for toto cup tickets...i mean For Fucks sake! are they selling 1,000,000 tickets to have the phones engaged constantly or is there just 1 operator in the ticket office!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

According to Niall and Biffa, the 26000 being bandied around was how many renewed before the first deadline! Assuming this is true, and there'd be no point in the club lying about it, this is remarkable: how many clubs have had gates like ours despite being consistently in the lower half of the table?

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

mmmmmmmmm just reclassify a few seats as non-season ticket but as concession or corporate and the emptiness vanishes!!!!

time will tell

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

it will be nice to see what happens. notw should be forced to issue a retraction of their false reporting which potentially could damage the plc's carefully nurtured rep.

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Gav - I got thro' once (nearly dropped the phone in shock !) and then no bugger picked up and eventually the line went dead !!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Carefully nurtured rep? hahaha....

Yawn Roly....maybe one day blunderland will be able to fill it's ground....

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Kats, if you get through wanna get 4 for me and i'll do the same for you if I get through....how many are you after?

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Gav, Sure I'll get 4 for you if I get thro'. I just want one........Billy no mates ;-)

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Cool, cheers petal....

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Just read Cushing's statement, and found the following choice of words interesting, if perhaps rather confusing:

".......we are again rapidly heading towards over 40,000 season ticket holders for the new campaign".

Presumably that means ST sales are currently something less than 40,000, say 38,000.
Allowing for 3,000 away supporters and say 3,000 seats retained for match-by-match sales, to get to "over 94% sold" overall we need to have sold ca. 43,000 tickets. That suggests we must have sold ca. 5,000 corporate tickets - could be right I guess.

This is surprisingly like the position last year and far better than we could have hoped. Niall and Biffa say that they have heard that we have sold 39000 STS so far. So, allowing for the deadline for waiting list applications, we could find that we even outstrip last year. All things considered, I think this is remarkable.

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Gav.... Woof but nee bite....

Clarky... 3,000 for match by match sales..... now that would be a really good move... all clubs should do this IMHO as we have done since moving to the SOL.... but a major change in policy for you lot coincidentally and conveniently disguising the fact that S/T sales are down....

Newcastle United have sold 94% of their season tickets for next season - and that's official. (We’ve changed the target number so we can make this claim)

The club, alleged in certain quarters to have had a poor response to season ticket renewal, are again rapidly heading towards over 40,000 season ticket holders for the new campaign. (We STILL haven’t sold 40,000 tickets)

Russell Cushing, United's Chief Operating Officer, was pleased to comment: "Many clubs in the Premiership are envious of the support the club receives through its season ticket sales. (They wish their fans base was as stupid as ours) Sell out crowds for the majority of home matches last season underlines the depth of support this club has. (You can fool some people all of the time)

"Last week somebody was suggesting that we didn't even have a waiting list. I can now report that over 10,000 letters were sent out last week to that non-existent waiting list in order to take up the small percentage reduction in sales so far with new applications topping 400 just from Monday's post. (We have over 10,000 STs left but only 400 of those waiting list bastards actually wanted one. It cost us more in postage than we got in revenue)

Bar packages are also selling well throughout (Piss heads the lot of them) and many corporate clients have renewed their contracts." (Though many corporate clients have not renewed becasue they don't want to be associated with failure)

Supporters on the waiting list have until Friday 20 July to get their applications in. (A deadline should get the bastards out of the pub and down to the post office)

The atmosphere in the club is upbeat following Saturday's victory in the Intertoto Cup and the Box Office has been inundated with ticket requests for next Saturday's second leg tie with Sporting Lokeren. (Thank Christ we beat the Belgies – we’d have had major problems flogging STs and home leg tickets if we’d have got beaten)

Russell Cushing was happy to add: "Sixteen thousand tickets have gone already. The response from fans to this early round of the competition, with United already leading 4 - 0, is staggering. (34,000 of the bastards can’t be bothered to turn out for this Mickey Mouse game and that’s before they knew it was on TV)

"All this with a month to go to the beginning of the season means we could even break last season's record sales. (And pigs could fly) I can assure any doubters that we're not talking up season ticket sales here (I’m lying through my teeth here but who cares - that’s public relations) - it's fact. The atmosphere at the final game of last season was electric, people are getting to feel at home in the new stadium and there are some spectacular early games that just can't be missed." (God I hope they swallow this rubbish and buy a season ticket our I’m out of a job)

Roly, we've done the match by match tickets since last year when the capacity was increased...

Rancid, haha dickhead...

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

now then Gav thats not very nice ... displaying the traits that you accuse "..all maKems.." of ... calling someone a dickhead... how unbecoming...

ouch

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Kats,

Rang the club switchboard instead of the box office number and got some waffle about the box office people working flat out because of the unexpected demand (strange cos they reckon there's only 16,000 tix gone so far! and most of them would've been to ST holders so need for a call!)....the woman also told me that there was a fault on the line which was cutting people off or not putting them through and the engineers were working on that....

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Gav - So do we just keep trying?

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

It's ringing but no-one is answering !!!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Let me know how you're getting on Kats....I finally got a ringing tone yesterday and then got through to a message that the box office had closed for the day...it was 5.05 :(( still at least it proved the line worked, i was starting to have doubts of that :)) I never even found it this busy for the semi finals!!

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2001

Gav I'll keep trying and will let you know as soon as I get thro !

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2001
