I know that, but there are some stories of other people that in the manual or specs or whatever that it is not compatible with cdr and or cdrw disks, yet still get it to work

What you say about CD-Rs and CD-RWs sometimes working is correct, but it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Rich Aubin discusses this subject on his web site at www.pcphotovideo.com. I'm sorry, but I have no practical Samsung related advice to give you. The basic idea is this - CD-R compatibility is provided by machines that have a 2nd laser dedicated to reading CD-R. CD-R reflects back at a different wavelength than commercial silver discs, such as audio CDs, VCDs, etc. Sony is known for not supporting CD-R, but yet some do work. Prime Peripherals brand CD-R works (I have personally verified this) and most CD-RW discs can be read on Sony players. This is because Sony's laser has a wider tolerance for reflectivity than most lasers that don't support CD-R. You may not be able to find anything that works in your Samsung. Your best bet is to try CD-RW discs as they reflect at a wavelength close to commercial silver discs. If you can't get CD-RW to work, you will not be able to get CD-R discs to work either. I have a friend who had a Toshiba DVD player who told me once "It will play anything". Well, it won't play CD-R at all and probably not CD-RW either, although we didn't try. I wish you well.
