Ok I guess I am the first one here, so I'll take a wild guess......hmmmmmmmm..........Hubby came home with a dozen red roses! ! !

Hubby is on his way home, with the keys to the new castle.

(I'll settle for the offer on the new house having been accepted.)

Brooks is the winner! The man accepted my offer (which started 6K less than he was asking!).... Now I'm on the box hunt :(

Sigh...all those new rooms to break in... 8)

All those boxes to pack. . . All those boxes to unpack. . .

Congratulations!!!! tell us all about it!!!

Now, can you get my other house to sell.?? It is a nice house...REALLY it is!

follow this Link to see the house. Let me know what y'all think. The master bath needs to have a color change, but that can wait for a few.

Magnificent! How much land? Looks like a lot.

Do you have any idea how deep the lake is? It looks like it might be filling in, in which case it could happen quite quickly.

I like the outside door in the spare bedroom. (The perfect teenager or MIL retreat...hehe)

Brooks,

It's on 5 acres. The lake is down a bit, and the man told us that the dam for it had broken some and that is why it is low. Hubby is going to be finding where the dam is and the owners of the property where the dam is and offer to fix it.

The outside door in the spare bedroom and my son's room goes to the wood deck that you can see from one of the back of the house shots. It doesn't have stairs, so he can't sneak off that way! LOL

I am positively chartreuse with envy. I LOVE stone and dark wood.

Sheeple, for filing away for later...

If the lake is filling up with shallow aquatic weeds, and if your area is cold enough in the winter, then a standard way to get rid of the weeds (there are some really obnoxious, invasive ones) is to draw down the pond during the winter so that they freeze. It will depend on what you state allows, but if yer hubby "fixes" the dam, he might want to explore a way that allows it to be drawn down sometime in the future. That might also allow the pond sediments to be dredged. Are the lake abutters on septic? That would be one source of nutrients that could speed up the pond growth.

"It doesn't have stairs, so he can't sneak off that way! LOL"

Hey guys, back me up. When are a lack of stairs any hinderance to midnight adventuring??

Yep, I'd be doin' the happy dance too :)

Congratulations!

I was so engrossed in the pictures I burned the zuchinni.

I am envious. This looks like a wonderful place and from what you showed of the yard, there is plenty of room to have a pool and have a wonderful yard still. I want that master bath. A whirlpool tub.... oh I am jealous.

When do you close and move in?

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Closing is set for Aug. 13th... and I'll start to move in that day. he he he...

hubby leaves this week for a deployment and won't get back until just before. I've got a whole house to pack. He's been great packing things, but we're having a problem getting free boxes. I hate to pay for boxes just to throw them away. We've got about 40 boxes packed since last night.

Sheeps, I had my best luck for boxes at the Hancock's Fabric store. They have all those frou-frou decor items, all of which come in sturdy boxes. Big Lots is a good source too. As you've discovered, all the supermarkets have their own incinerators or they cut off the tops of the boxes, flatten and bale them--a small store is your best bet. You might try an antique shop or a Hallmark Cards shop, ask when their next delivery is due so you can have their boxes. Pier One used to be a good source. I'm afraid you're going to be haunting dumpsters for a while.

Old Git,

Now why didn't I think about Hancock Fabrics? Heck, the one near me, I'm known as a first name basis with all there. Heck, I'm their prefered customer! LOL. I guess I didn't think about it cause I only buy fabric and not the 'stuff' that they sell. I'll give them a call this morning. Where I work, we usually have tons of boxes, but most of them are huge. I'm sorta out of luck with those, as there are two others in my building that are moving as well, and that is what I know of there may be a couple more.

My son was cute last night, packing up his stuffed animals that he sleeps with. Come bed time, he wanted a few so he had to unpack a couple. At least he is trying. So far 16 boxes of just books, and there are still a few to pack!

I'm going for the nonessential stuff. Then I'll start with the essentials, and leave bare bones just to get by. We're also making a mound for good will.

Very nice house. Very 'Brady.' LOL

As to packing books, put some in each box, on the bottom, and other stuff with them. Makes each box average weight, instead of a bunch of heavy ones. After you empty all the other stuff out, take the box of books to the bookcases. [You could even sort them by author or type, if you wanted.]

I learned this with records. A friend had about 3000 records [remember the old vinyl disks that played at 33rpm?] Well, she got the boxes from the record stores, especially for records ya see. But each one weighed about a hundred pounds. Ugh! I only helped her move once. Fortunately that was all it took since she was movig out of the state. LOL

Sheeple, better yet, don't unpack any boxes, stack them as shields in your bombshelter. (I don't recall anything about a basement...)

Also, liquor stores are good for boxes with divisions in which you can pack glasses and other appropriately-shaped breakables. You might also check with your real estate agent, see if she knows of any military families that have been transferred to the area and are moving in in the next week or so--since the military pays a commercial mover to do the job, they have all the proper boxes, including those lovely (and very expensive) wardrobe boxes.
