4x5 & larger Infrared... develop by inspection?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

When using 4x5 and larger infrared B&W film, will it hurt to develop by inspection like normal film? Since the green safelight is not turned on to inspect the film until a bit more than half the 'normal' developing time has elapsed I wouldn't think it would hurt it. Anyone with real world experience with the film & processing?

Dan. IR acts just like regular film. It's sensitivity is just into the near IR part of the spectrum. After 1/2 the developement time has gone by, the shadows are developed and the highlights are now slowly coming up. It will be ok to develope by inspection. James
