bad idea...

Have a tabloid auction, play the price up, then sell the ungrateful tw@t abroad.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Man U is about the only team he could join and get away with just a plain outcry

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Are we all getting worked up about an article in the not the news of the world or is there more substance to it? Afterall we have shown a complete lack of ambition by trying to sign Zenden and Robert

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Oh, Kieron Dyer, he went to Leeds United and he won f*ck all. Leeds will do what Chelsea did last term - nowt. And he'll no doubt carry on the tradition of getting injured the second he leaves us.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Kegsy. Theres more substance this time.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

What's the story then?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

selling dyer would be like jordan getting her implants removed...

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

can you follow the logic?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

"I've had a chat with Kieron concerning all the talk about him going to Leeds. I said to him 'We've looked after you and paid your salary for 6 months when you've played no games for us, so your allegiance is to this club'." So Bobby told the Sunday Times, which makes you wonder what had Dyer said to him? He obviously hadn't just pledged his allegiance.

Then Talk of the Tyne come up with this:

"What the Sunday Times DOESN'T tell you is what Kieron Dyer replied.

We were told last season by a player at the club that Dyer would be a Leeds player before long. We're just reporting what was said by a Newcastle United player. Whether you believe it or not ... that's up to you. "

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

At least Jordan's implants don't whine on in the press ad nauseum.... blah, blah, blah. I'm rapidly losing patience with this guy.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I hate the idea of him at Leeds. it sticks in my throat

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I was all for serlling him before. Too inconsistent and comes across as a prize tosser. But now I am not so sure - what chance would we have of attracting top players without him in the team?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Omg we cant sell him! We cant attract top stars, we cant even attract players not near top starts. If we then sell Dyer we cant use the money and NOBODY will come our way. Stop it now, i dont even belive this nonsense.

Sportal have just posted the following report:

"Kieron Dyer is heading for the exit door at Newcastle United - and a likely £20 million transfer to Leeds.
The 22-year-old midfielder will meet manager Bobby Robson for talks this week and could hand in an official transfer request.
The Daily Express claims that Leeds have already had a £15million bid for the England international turned down
" - something that has been vigorously denied by that scum-bag Ridsdale.

"Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd stated at the beginning of July that Dyer was not for sale, and the Tynesiders are unlikely to accept anything less than £20m for the former Ipswich player, who is understood to be keen on the move".

I'm afraid it sounds to me as though he is gone, but I wouldn't accept a penny less than £25 million for him - there are several recent precedents for such a fee. If Leeds want him do not let him go on the cheap Fred - squeeze the pips dry. Scheming, devious, underhanded Yorkshire b@st@rds!

I he really wants way, we should encourage other Clubs to bid for him, and if at all possible sell him to a foreign Club to spike Leeds underhanded dealing - of the kind that eventually sprung Rio Ferdinand from WHU. Tossers!

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

leeds. underhand.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

weren't Milan in for him??? I agree with Clarky wholeheartedly, better yet sell him ASAP and strengthen the squad with a couple of signings before the season gets going!!!

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I'd only sell him to another club if they offered a player plus cash deal. Cash is no good to us at the moment, but something like Harte + £10 million or Solksjear/Butt + £10 million would be tempting.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Solksjaer would be nice,

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I despair. When is somebody going to make an example of one of these spineless gits ? I know it makes no business sense whatever, but I'd love to see us take the 'if you don't want to play for us, you're not playing for anybody', approach, and keep him to his contract. Completely nonsensical, but somebody needs to do it IMO.

Why the feck did he sign for us in the first place. Does look as though he's well on the way to being a prize tosser, if even half of what we're reading and hearing is true. I'm a bit surprised at Bobby airing the dirty laundry to the Times, though. If they approached him, he should have lied out of his back teeth, or at least been non-committal.

And there's bound to be a poxy agent lurking in the undergrowth egging him on for his cut of whatever price we can get for him.

The glow of stuffing Lokeren hasn't lasted long.

Nope...fair play to YBR for airing the dirty laundry in public, it's the only way we EVER get the truth....

From Skysports:

LEEDS BID IN DYER STRAIGHTS

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has told England international Kieron Dyer that he has no chance of making a £20million move to Leeds United.

Dyer was hauled into Shepherd's office this morning and warned that he will not be allowed to quit St James' Park.

Shepherd said: "I have had a long, frank and amicable discussion with both Kieron and his agent where I reiterated Kieron's future lies with Newcastle United.

"Kieron is an integral part of the future of Newcastle United and I reiterate once again that our ambitions more than match those of Kieron's. For once and for all, Kieron Dyer is not for sale."

David O'Leary is reportedly prepared to break the bank in a bid to land the 22-year-old, who joined Newcastle in a £6million move from Ipswich Town two years ago.

And although Shepherd remains adamant that Dyer will not be allowed to leave, the England midfielder is growing increasingly frustrated at Bobby Robson's failure to lure top signings to St James' Park.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Tough talking from a scrap metal dealer. I wonder if Kieron knows how hard it is to play football with one of your toes missing. What do you mean - what's he been recouperating from for the last 6 months??

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I'd agree with you Gav, if there were any guarantees that what appears in newsprint bears even a remote resemblance to the truth, particularly where football is concerned.

This stinks to high heaven of Leeds trying to repeat the Rio Ferdi raid, but it's difficult to see what else can be done other than to keep 'reiterating again' he's not for sale.

It's Dyer's attitude that has to change though, if they're serious about keeping him. Doesn't matter how many times Freddy and Bobby say he's not for sale, it won't make a haaporth of difference if Dyer's set on going. I'll be a bit reassured if Dyer goes into print that he's prepared to stay - although I'll believe it only cos I want to.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Know what you mean PB and I agree....this is all probably more unsettling for the fans than the club :)) If he is engineering this and goes then i'll not forgive him or leeds.....just as I haven't forgiven Hamann or Liverpool....

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

If only some bugga anybody had ever heard of would bliddy well sign and put us out of our misery. That's mostly what's making me gnash me gums.

What's wrong with the dozy toerags ?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

nufc.com state that their 'source' maintains Ferdinand is being used as a 'go-between'. It makes me sick.

if O Leary had to put up with someone doing that to one of his 'young boy's' he wouldn't stop whinging about it.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I agree. In fact, he'd probably just get one of them to kick his heed in (allegedly).

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

If Kieron wants to go I'd be happy for him to do so, just as long as the little cunt(What I percieve at this moment in time, but its still open to ambiguouity) is open to honesty, thus he does not have the nerve to slag the club off for lacking ambition, or deny he went for purely financial circumstances.

Lets see.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I've been one of Freddie Shepherd's biggest critics, but you have to feel sorry for the guy over this situation with Dyer.
I only hope he has spoken directly to Ridsdale at Leeds, and flamed the sly toerag for the underhanded way they are clearly seeking to undermine Dyer's position at the Toon.
If the boot was on the other foot you can bet that Leeds would be screaming "foul" from the bloody roof- tops.

The way both Leeds and Liverpool have gone about building their squads by acting like disreputable parana's on the best talent at other PL clubs is frankly disgusting - imo they should be hauled before the authorities and brought to book for their actions.
Unfortunately, it would difficult to accumulate clear evidence unless one or two people involved coughed, which seems highly unlikely.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

If Leeds really are trying to prise Dyer away in this manner, then I think we should hold them to ransom. 25mil plus Harte and Bridges...and only after Bridges proves his fitness. They want him that badly, they will have to agree to our terms no matter how outrageous.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Don't we have Dyer on contract for a couple of years yet. Did Dyer actually say the things reported. if so, perhaps a season playing in the stiffs at Kingston Park, in the cold and wind in front of a few thousand might remind him of "who's in charge". That would really resurrect his England career and give him all the trophies he's looking for. Ker-iste, he's still a bairn and should bliddy well grow up. If these stories are not true, then I apologise in advance. Let's face it, he's had a dozen or so good games and a lot of shite games before he was injured, not to mention the pouting, sulking and other baby-ish antics associated with a bairn.

If he wants to stay here, OK, keep him, give him a bigger bonus IF he performs. If not, well, a contract is a contract. Ask Marcellino or Maric, it works both ways.

Devil's Advocate, that's me!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

no, just right-ish

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

I agree with pete! Take the bastard doon to kingston park and then tell him he's playing. He should point out a few players on the park used to be internationals. Let the twat rot for a few games.

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

I've calmed down a bit. Yesterday, I was wishing upon him a really virulent and highly painful dose of Gonorrhea (with willy falling off as a side effect), but I am not sure how much he is being manipulated by others. (Hmm...there has to be a joke in there - Dyer being manipulated by others).

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

The word you're looking for Doug is 'masturbanipulated'. :-))

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

The problem with disaffected players these days is that banishing them to the Reserves just doesn't work. They simply bugger off and say "I'm not playing for you anymore, so transfer me!".
This immediately reduces their market value because the Seller is then in a weakened negotiating position.

Sooner or later a major Club simply must sue a player who is behaving like this for 'breach of contract' in an attempt to curtail this nonsense. I guess the problem with that approach is what sanction could a court apply other than financial - they can't force them to play, especially to play enthusiastically. Unfortunately, there's the rub.
