Dyer demands showdown talks 15 Jul 2001

Kieron Dyer has reportedly asked for talks with Newcastle this week after a lack of summer signings has made him question the club's ambition.

According to The News of the World, the England midfielder has become increasingly disillusioned with the lack of ambition shown by the Tyneside club.

Newcastle have been frustrated in their dealings in the transfer market this summer, the latest setback being the collapse of the deal to bring Paris Saint Germain midfielder Laurent Robert to St James' Park over the player's personal terms.

"Kieron has become more and more frustrated with what is happening at Newcastle," a friend of the player is quoted as saying.

"When he signed for them he thought he was joining a club who could win the Premiership. But they have not shown the sort of ambition which matches his own.

"Kieron is ambitious and wants to play at the very highest level, but it doesn't seem like he is going to achieve that at Newcastle.

"He wants to know they share his ambition."

The news will come as a huge blow to Magpies boss Bobby Robson, who was also snubbed by Barcelona's Boudewijn Zenden, and who has repeatedly stated that Dyer is not for sale.

Should he insist on leaving the North-East however, it will spark a massive chase for the £20million-rated player, with Leeds leading the pack.

Total bollox, they also say that we have only sold 27000 tickets despite wiping £500 off the price. Believe that piece of shite at your peril. The front page goes heavy on an attack on Gary Glitter, a total crap piece of jounalism.

I wouldn't question a report in the NotW - a paper which has always been very supportive of the Toon.

I had aa theory about a year and a half ago that said they where trying hard in some way to turn the hurd against merchandise, and guess which reporter I questioned, RAY RYAN..

Who has plugged him I now wonder?????

NOTW - as someone has already said, a paper with the best interests of NUFC at it's core. It would never write rubbish or stir up trouble, or set up 2 directors now would it? Utter utter scum.

Well, YBR is now quoted as responding to the above, so I don;t imagine it's total fabrication. I'm pretty sure now Dyer will leave. Perhaps Leeds et al will wait to make sure he can actually return to full fitness, but as soon as he demonstrates this the bids will be in and he'll be off. As I've said before, I have no problem with Dyer leaving other than the fact that we will be incapable of spending the money we get for him.

We will be able to spend it on mid table mediochrity. However I do not think this is a bad thing. Many on here are of the opinion that we are relegation candidates. So a further strengthening of our squad to make us a regular mid table premiership side will make them happy.

The future for us is untried talent with potential. When this group go on to prove themselves and more will be attracted we can progress to adding the odd star and become perenial top five type team and get into Europe.

Then we will attract better players and become contenders.

Hope I live to see it though.

If Dyer goes we should get Emmerton. I am not his No 1 fan, do not think I am just extolling his virtues.

I hear so much on here about we need more British steel etc in the side. We should try some Aussie stuff too. Whether you like the Tiatto or Muscat type or the Kewell or Viduka type. They will not give up, even though Viduka does not always chase the long ball he goes for every 50/50 ball and makes it 75/25 his way.

There are not as many in the Kewell Viduka class, but Emmerton is one of them with their level of skill and he has the fight of Tiatto and Muscat.

Aussies are very physical and suited to the EPL. Softie Anorak or anyone else wishing to challenge for the "Golden Jacket" if you look to see I feel you would be surprised at the number of Aussies in the English game, not just the PL.

I'd be deeply insulted as a fan of NUFC if we sold Dyer to Leeds. There is no way they are ahead of us in the food chain - NO WAY. I doubt I also be able to stomach him getting sold to a club with similar potential stature too us eg, a Milan or a Liverpool, but to feckin Leeds?

P.S mid table mediochrity my hairy arse, nee offence to your opinion Gus, but there is no point in running a Merc on second hand olive oil. It'll take time -a few seasons at the most- but slowly but surely WE WILL GET WHERE WE BELONG, which is: challenging for the Championship........

Take a deep breath "T", re read what I have said and tell me where it differs from what you say in your second paragraph!

I have repeatedly stated on here that Dyer must be a quality player, why would a host of top clubs be interested in him otherwise . IMHO that up to the present time he has a long way to go to be a legend for want of a better word at our club. Granted playing in a mediocre team we may not have seen his undoubted potential ,and in a struggling outfit he looks no more than ordinary. Bobby`s mistake was to say, "No way is he leaving, I want to build my team around him", sorry Bob this put him and his agent in a strong position and now he can get away with questioning the ambitions of you ,and your team. Let`s get one thing straight Kieron, as good as player as you think you are ,any manager with nous would not look to build a team around you, to begin with, your style of play does not lend itself to this herculean task, and I doubt if your moral fibre is up to it. Most if not all star players are inconsistent, apart from the obvious , guys who you can look to inspire , same game week in, week out, Keane ,Vierra and to a lesser degree O`Neil will build a team around a bread and butter player Lennon. As Dan says Dyer will move on , why not now? , before he comes a crowd favourite, will he get a game at Man u, Pool , Arse, (doubtful), Leeds mebbes aye, mebbes no, so where does that leave him and Newcastle who cannot win in this situation. In my mind this is a very critical decision for Bob and the board , (Suddick/£10,000 - 3 new players spring to mind), selling him, is this a declaration of lack of ambition, selling him for 20 mill say after 6 mill buy, is this good business provided Bobby can get the 3 /4 players into the club?, even with Dyer onboard he has found it difficult to purchase players, Taking everything into consideration I would sell the boy, purchase 3/4 accredited professionals, the time to bring in the super stars is when you can accomondate them.

flog him now.send him to somewhere like Milan and watch him struggle.though you CAN NOT BLAME him for wanting to go.time will tell.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

no way they are ahead of us in the food chain

There's another way of looking at that. What happens to food when you finish with it? Alimentary dear Watson Smith - alimentary.

Gus, just blame the connections from my eyes to brain at 4am. Would the word 'mediocre' not stun you after just waking up????? e.g. how angry would you be if you were told the Toon was to sign Tony Cottee after dreaming about Ronaldo in the no.9?? Wouldnt you react in a fight/flight? I hold the Toon in the highest esteem, that when I'm half asleep I get reactionary like a Makkem whos just been told to pay for a ticket.

Jonno sorry about the shit, but it has to come out from everyone once in a while like.

big T, seeing as you work in Barclays... can you get me a loan?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Not offended in any way "T", just thought you might have missed my ever so lightly sarcasm sprinkled intention

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Gus, when will you learn? If you want to indicate sarcasm on the internet, you have to use the correct Hyper Text Markup Language tags. Send me a tenner and I'll send you a patch for your browser for these advanced features (you'll need to say whether you're using NetScrape or Internet Exploder). I'll also send full instructions on how to implement it. (This offer was previously available from Lord Westwood but I have taken over the franchise.)

In the meantime, you might want to try [sarc]Words of sarcasm[/sarc]. Worth a try. God, I despair at times.
