Right! Snap out of it!

Doom, Moan, Gloom, Moan.

Cor! Summer's great isn't it? Reading the comments on here is getting WAY out of hand - is there anyone out there who is REMOTELY positive about the coming season? Some of the criticism on here is justified but the most damaging and depressing thing is the general tone.

Where's the fight? Where's the determination? Where's the positive? We're all like someone with hypochondria at the moment and if we THINK we'll do badly then come the start of the season [TOMORROW!] then in all probability, we will. Anyone not believe for a minute that what goes on outside the stadium doesn't transfer [sic] to the players? Bit of BELIEF people...

We have no divine right to attract players. So what? If they don't want to play for us, then just shrug your shoulders and the next time they play at SJP, prove to them what they've missed out on.

Our time will come. Get behind the players we currently have. Get shouting. Get positive. Get loud. Get proud. Get believing. We're Newcastle United.

Keep the FAITH...

Min, all due respect mate, but everyone on here has been keeping the faith way past it's best by date. Sure, if I were anywhere near home I'd go to every game possible and sing me heart out as most do. I think what is most difficult to take is that we had it and lost it via some rather dodgy managers, poor PR and gross misspending. Dog leash ruined a great Newcastle team, Ruud propounded it. BR is trying to fix, except this time when don't have the millions to throw at players. Our future is in the future on the shoulders of Shola, coppinger, caldwells, gavilan etc. We should be thankfull that they will stay and play in the premiership.

Ya agree Min, almost dont wanna come here becuase it so negative all the time. But fact remains the we havent had anything to cheer for the last year. So it's hard to stay positive. I just want the season to start (and it does tomorrow) so you can focus on the next match.

syme, know what you're saying but at the moment there's more doom and gloom on here than there was during Dogleash and Gullit's reign and, in perspective, there's a thousand more positive things going on at NUFC right now...

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

Granted min! just get the season started and get on with it. I am looking for Bellamy to be a revalation, Elliott to keep everyone on their toes and shola and coppinger to be given a fair crack.

Sorry just too depressed at think anything positive.

BTW - still no press conference to announce Bellamy's signing - are they not bothering now there is no one else to join him? i bet he's gutted.

admittedly I'm a very rare poster although I have been round for just as long as most of you I'd imagine.

Reading the postings on here really have got me down over the past month or so. So what, we haven't signed any 'top class' foreigners. As far as I can see we've got a fantastic player in Elliott and potentially a great player in Bellamy.

Someone posted on here a few weeks ago that if you look at the past signings, most the big names have come during the season.

If you look at our side we have got a fantastic young side that, fair enough will do nothing this season, but give it a year or 2 and we'll be up there with the best of 'em. From what I can gather we have got money (at least £15m if we are to believe that we were seriously going to get those 2) so we WILL buy big and we WILL buy soon.

Trust me.

its all a question of expectations. with the current squad next season we will finish 9th with 58 points. (the mackems would be happy if their team managed a similar result)

the doom merchants are looking for something top 3 or 4 in which case we need:

at least one fullback or andy griffin cloning himself and both he & the clone avoiding injury.

a new centre back or a clone of dabizas - ditto with the injuries.

a left midfielder or a left footed clone of solano.

a new striker or shearer cloning two new lower limbs of the type last seen in 1997.

a dominant central midfielder or an anti clone of gary speed.

since all of the above seem likely to occur i'm looking forward to the season and so should all you.

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

All for the anti-clone, lol. What is up with griff anyway is it his back or another hernia? the lads awnly like 22 innihe??

So those on the BBS who are a tad p!$$ed off with the lack of signings are wrong and should be happy with a freebie and a guyt who failed to impress in the EPL last season?

Well, if that level of acquisition is OK, why the hell has FS been flying all over Europe negotiating with clubs and/or players/agents? Clearly, the club management are not happy with what they have right now, otherwise they would not have bid so much for so many.

Is it unreasonable for the supporters to voice opinions related to this lack of success in the transfer market? If it's OK to have a bunch of young Brits coming thru the ranks, why have ManUre spent nearly £50M on two players and Arse a fair amount on the players they've bought (not to mention Chewsee)??

Along with the board, we have ambition. Is that wrong? Sure, when I get back to SJP at the beginning of the season (proper), I'll be singing my heart oot fer the lads. But in the meantime, please don't tell me to calm my frustration - cos that's what it is that's causing the doom and gloom - and believe all will be sweetnss and light.

I witnessed too many cr@p performances last season to believe that replacing Gallacher with Bellamy and Glass with Elliot ('cos that's in effect what we've done so far) will make a huge difference. There's nothing to make me believe that we won't have a similar crop of injuries this season - why should that change? So, assuming we will get some injuries/suspensions (we will!) then we need more depth. The midfield which struggled last year is little stronger, apart from LKD when he returns (for how long?). The forward line is made up of an aging superstar who appears to be more injury prone over the past few years and a few unproven kids - CC perhaps excepted but he's not been the fittest around.

Believe me, we do need to strengthen the squad - otherwise the talented youngsters we have such as LKD and the Caldwells will be tempted to bu66er off elsewhere in search of success (bliddy glory hunters, don't you just hate them??).

I have faith Min lad, but I also ave a finite amount of patience. However, my faith isn't blind.

Rant over ;-)

I agree with you Screacher which is what I was saying on the previous thread. Interesting that no one bothers to question the potential leadership credentials of AS also. We all need a lift and right now if we want to moan lets moan. The young uns on their own are not the answer. We need quality experienced players around them to learn from and bring them on. I still think we are redundant on the coaching front also. Ch ch ch ch changes??

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

With Screacher on this one Min , what bothers me is the little things, reading Barr`ys training ground report it may happen that Marcellino could be in for O`Brian, if he is , the natural progression of Steve Caldwell would be damaged, I cannot imagine Bobby doing this , can I ?

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

We've put in for loads of players if Clarky's source is anywhere near the mark. Now it seems we may be buying for the sake of it (or at least trying), I'm not unduly pessimistic about this season but I don't think we're good enough to challenge for honours but if everyone gets fit and stays fit it could be a different story.

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

This is no time for pessimism. At the start of the season the players must have total confidence in themselves and their ability. It is our duty to support them in their self belief.

Naturally, doubts have been expressed about incoming and existing players. Forget those doubts now. You have expressed your views and if you are proved correct then you can point back to the appropriate threads and say "I told so".

Until that time arrives, Bellamy is one of the best strikers in the Premier (his only serious contenders are Shearer, Cort and Ameobi), YBR walks on water, we have got Elliot, soon to become a Geordie legend and he cost nowt, the board is working tirelessly to bring in the best talent we can get, Marcellino has had some terrible luck and is about to demonstrate his £5m+ rating. We have the best fans, the best stadium, the best BBS. We are in Europe. The club is emerging from an indifferent period. Play YOUR part in the revival and get behind the lads in thought word and deed.

TIWY -I'll get in right one day (maybe?) and then it'll be my turn to say I told you so. :-)
