Trim Terms

All the woodwork around the inside of a house is typically called just that -- woodwork or trim. These terms are OK if we're talking about cleaning or painting, but if we're going to do trim work, it helps to know specifics.

The basic trim around a window or door is called casing. When trimming out a window, the casing usually sits on the window stool, which most people call the sill. Underneath the stool is the apron. These trim parts come in many styles or profiles. Knowing the correct terminology makes communication at the lumberyard easier.

Old git, I'd use the squares and blocks like we talked about the other day!
