Recovery from Galaxy2001 Virus help needed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

After bleaching and sheep dip I think I have cleaned my machine of the dreaded Galaxy2001.

The only side effect is that to connect to the internet Iused to click on the little "e" symbol at the bottom of the monitor then enter my password and my home page would come up.

Post Galaxy2001 If I click on the "e" now it just gives me an offline error. I then have to go into "my computer" then dial up networking get the connection, then click on the "e". Any suggestions?

Any about stop using so much "e" etc will be ignored as will suggestions regarding inserting items into bodily orrifices

Sounds like you just lost the automatic connection configuration from your 'e' button. Since I've never seen an 'e' button (am assuming it's a short-cut thingy?), I don't know how to tell you to reconfigure it. Does your user's manual have any info on how to set it? You should be able to get whatever connection info(isp info, etc) you need to plug in there from your dial-up networking window.

Gus, If you right click on the "e" on your desktop and click properties, you should see a connection tab. In there, there is a button that says "always dial my default connection" make sure that is selected and then when you double click on your "e" you should get your password screen. Let me know how you get on

I'm still awol (absent without laptop) so unable to see my emails and don't know if I've received this from Galaxy. I'll be gutted and relieved in equal measure if I'm not one of Galaxy's best friends. :-)

Jonno, not everyone in my mailbox has received a phantom message from me. I believe it just grabs a few addresses at a time each time you connect. Jonno, I have not sent you any mail, so if there is one there seemingly from me, simply delete it immediately. I have not e mailed anyone on the BBS this week, so this applies to everyone.... DO NOT OPEN ANY E MAILS FROM ME!!...I have not knowingly e mailed you. Although my computer is now virus free, I am not mailing anyone for at least a week......just till I know for sure.(:o|

Aye, Foot in Mouth. A common ailment often displayed by senior board members of NUFC. Not to mention a few of us here on the BBS.
