Come on then

What sort of player can we realistically attract to the Toon ?

No sarcasm please

Timmy from Southpark....

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

I would stick with who we have, untill such a time that we are a more atractive proposition to the worlds best players.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Any player in the world if you can reach agreement.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

We need a left winger e.g. Steven Glass and striker cover e.g.Kevin Gallacher. They would fit the bill :-(

the lad asked for no sarcasm Ted Rogers?

seriously, i think we are dead duck, no one worthwhile seemingly

though i have a slight suspicion Bob may have an ace in his sleeve. Kiko would do a job, though i bet he's on the phone to Inter about Ronaldo right now - seriously

stupid question here

Why are we so unnatractive

I mean we pay good/stupid wages

Cannot just be this Europe thing

Can it?

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

I have just been asking the same thing on a different post. Nee buger want us!

I seriously doubt, BR has an ace in his sleeve. I think they are desperate. I think they are 'trawling' (Bobby's words) around desperate to sign a biggish name. They know the supporters are fed up. The trouble is, if they'd signed players before last Xmas when we had loads of injuries we might not be in this position now.

Remember when KK was manager we could attract big names because the team were doing well and he had a certain pull for players. During most of our history we've never attracted the big names.

I am fed up!

Players that are aware of Newcastle's potential but don't expect - or rather can't command a place at a current top tier club. Ie those that hopefully have the ambition to improve themselves and see Newcastle as the right club in which to do it. For me they'll therefore have two characterstics - young and undiscovered, or career has taken a wrong path and they need a fresh chance. We cannot expect players that see their next step as winning trophies, domestic and European.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Who are these players though? Actual names - cos I am struggling to think of anyone who fits that criteria.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Zenden - bad mo to Barca. Always on bench in a struggling side. Knows Bobby really rates him. Good wages being touted.

And he does not even speak to us. Scary

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

maybe he can get better terms elsewhere?

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

What's even more scary is the makems apparently not having anywhere near the bother we're having, and the guys they've signed I wouldn't have said were any less well known than those we've tried for.

Surely that can't just be on the strength of one season in which they were a bit more in the spotlight than they usually are ?

I'm starting to think there's a fair bit resting on Saturday's 2bob tie, just from the point of view of giving us some idea of what we might have to live with in the league, form wise.

A bliddy good hammering of what should be no hopers would cheer me up no end, boll0x to tempting fate - go out and stuff them, none of this playing safe so we can finish them off in the home leg.

There, I've said it. Cue the death threats and hate mail. :-))

I prefer to look at it from another angle...

Why won't these players sign for us?

European competition, Newcastle isn't London, and there is a culture shock thing to deal with. If Robert signed, who would he pal around with? Zenden? With the latinos it's different, they all hang out together. We know Dyer can't play about, Shearer is married, and not sure if Speed, Hughes, Given or the rest would be willing.

I have the ultimate answer to your question though... the only pllayers we can buy are the ones who we should be buying anyhow...BRITISH!!!!

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Britsh players from who though? QPR? Tranmere?

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Sparxx - Lilian Laslandes...?

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

The lad from West Brom, we were linked with, supposedly a good player for one. Hell if we have 17m on the board for two players who don't want to come here I'm damn sure it would do the trick for someone who knows what the PL is about.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

People always gan on about Keegans's 'big' signings but the likes of Ginola, Sir Les, Tino and Albert were hardly earth shattering. The first two weren't full internationals, Tino was a misfit and Albert was never considered world class. Only Al was a really big signing and Keegan buggered off 6 months after he bought him.

No top notch foriegn players have EVER wanted to play for us, before, during or after KK, well unless you count Mirandina, he was fookin brill.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Mirandinah was so brill he chinned gazza in the middle of a match, the lad was nuts. What happened to him anyway?? You're right no world class player ever wants to come this far north especially when all the glamour is in the smoke. Pure geography, still f**k 'em, their loss as far as Iam concerned. Once we get out of this poor spell, (even though it's lasted for 3+ years players will be begging to come here and then we can tell em all to get stuft.

The GLAMOUR IS MADE TO BE 'PERCIEVED' TO BE IN THE SOUTH. Perhaps if in general you changed this attitude of London being more attractive, then perhaps the press may eventually see Newcastle as the attractive place to be by expressing what we thought of ourselves?

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Are Liverpool and Manchester (as cities) any more attractive than Toon? More attractive than London? No....they just have good teams that win things. If we start winning things, top players will come. Not all of them...but enough. Winning means more money, more money means they can drive or fly to London as much as their little hearts and fat wallets desire. Most players want to win.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

London is a dirty hole infested by 18 times the amount of people it should be. I say tarmac the whole damn place over and build a big funpark for Children.

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

Good point, that a lot of our players are a bit dull, Shearer is a married man living in a mansion, Lee also, Given is a bible basher. Only Acuna, Dyer & Cort sound like they'd be a laugh to go out with. We need to buy young, single lads.

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

there are plenty of players out there we just have to get over the flash players who quite clearly dont want to play for us. instead sign players who have played / are playing in the E.P.L

Seth Johnson - Derby - £5m Quinton Fortune - MUFC - £2.5m Lee Clarke - Al Fayed FC - £4m Dean Richards - Soton - £6m Jason Euell - CAFC - WHAT A MISS! £4.5m for a 20 goals for last season striker ! Jesper Gronkjaer - CFC £6m - will want out now, pacy LEFT winger Michael Ball - EFC - £4.5m Eiduir Gudjohsen - CFC - £5m David Weatherall - £1.5m - BCFC , good squad player Brett Emerton - £5m - Feyenord Jon Harley - CFC - £4m Jody Morris - CFC - £5m John Terry - CFC - £4m Michael Hughes - Wimbledon - 500k, good squad player, left winger Steve Stone - Villa - £3m Steve Watson - EFC - £3.5m Alan Thompson - Celtic - £2m Chris Sutton - Celtic - £4m Tore Andre Flo - Rangers - £8m wasting his talents up there! Danny Tiato - MCFC - £3.5m David Prutton - NFFC - £3.5m

I'm sure there are other out there but i cant think of any more atm. First of all we need to built a team loaded with SPIRIT! you start that off buy signing geordies, then buy adding players like that listed above who WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL and will play hard, chase down the ball and be proud to wear the black and white shirt!

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

Exactly, pSy! And those amounts don't seem to be so unreasonable when you've got clubs splashing double-digit millions for the top players. I'd rather we get in players who will bust a gut every week and get us winning consistently. Then we can shift them out as we are able to bring in, or develop(!), top players.

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2001

Seth Johnson - Derby - £5m Not that good Quinton Fortune - MUFC - £2.5m (any manure transfer will involve dyer) Lee Clarke - Al Fayed FC - £4m (excellent choice) Dean Richards - Soton - £6m (good, not 6m) Jason Euell - CAFC - WHAT A MISS! -- Anonymous, July 13, 2001
