Zenden: a narrow escape

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

If he doesn't want to play for our club, he can f..k right off. What goes around comes around: remember Winston Bogarde saying he wanted to join Chelsea instead of us? Well, he's STILL getting the pressure sores on his arse from sitting on the bench treated. Within one season, Zenden will be wishing he'd joined us.

thing is at this rate we'll end up stuffing everyone, wait a minute thats what we want!! Stuff away!!

No .... sorry but I can't agree. Neither of these players that we've been linked with have snubbed us. They are just dragging their heels to get a better deal, probably at the advise of their agents. ONCE THEY SAY "I DONT WANT TO GO TO NEWCSTLE, then I'll jump on thew bandwagon. Until then I've an open mind.

Agree with the above sentiments and have done all along, hence why I think Bellamy is a lot better signing than Zenden or Robert in a lot of ways. Although we're not on a par with the top premiership sides anymore, we're still relatively skillful. Team spirit and application wil get us into the top 6-7 and raise our profile. We've got to do everything in stages and realise that we can't just jump back up to where we were 4 years ago. In fact the situation reminds me a little of our early promotion years. It's not as if anything's new in players turning us down...

Indeed. In fact Robert seemed positively keen. I'm guessing that agents may be up to their no-good tricks again. Come to think of it Zenden was positively keen as well until his Dad/agent came on the scene. It's looking like Lovenkrands all over again, only with Chelsea instead of Rangers.

Zenden has had 6 or 7 weeks to talk to Newcastle and hasn't, that sounds like a snub to me but I am very forgiving and if he changes his mind at the last minute I'll figure that he did it for dramatic effect.

Pete

You say that Team spirit and application wil get us into the top 6-7 and raise our profile. But we didn't see a great deal of either last season.

Why will the next be any different?

Why would Chewsea want Zenden when they've got Gronkjaer?

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

...'cos his name's easier to spell? Well, just!

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

It's all hear'say , we are so gullable and derspeate for infomation that we believe anything that is put about. I honestly think we should bide our time, let Zenden finish his holiday and see what unfolds.

There's also the theory that we only want one of these players , so it's OUR camp that's doing the messing around.

Toon Expat - no we didn't, but they're things we should be able to work on and come though a bit of stability. More specifically new transfers won't necessarily solve the issue, especially if their commitment is wavering before they even join us.

Even the most optimistic of us cannot believe that we can win the Premier League this year. With the two signings and the maturing of some of our youngsters I am confident that we can do better than last year. Let's not crawl all the way to Paris and Barcelona to hire players who want it all on a plate now rather than willing to fight all the way to win it. I certainly would never have been prepared to put up with this nonsense from prospective employees -- and neither should Shepherd. Tell PSG and Barcelona NOW that we are no longer interested

Well in the Robert case the club must be to "blame". The two teams cant agree, Robert has only said good things about us.

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Sorry, but Kevin Keegan used to say that if the discussion whether to join a club took more than ten minutes, the player wasn't desperate to join the club. I'm afraid I agree with him. If these players wanted to play for us, they would be here now.

lets stick with what we have and hope Bellamy is like Ronlado and not Ronald Mcdonald

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Trouble is the boss is not satisfied with what he's got and has tried to strengthen.

He did not look an inspired man - infact just the oposite. Very dejected.

Quite the opposite of Taggart who is like a cheshire cat at the press conference.

all rather depressing.

yeah but, picture their faces IF Man U fail to win the league OR fail to win the European Cup and we finish top 6 or 7. funny old game

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

after watching Acuna and Bassedas out battle Keane and Veron and in the second half substitutes Lee and Speed overunning Butt and Scholes

yeah right

-- Anonymous, July 12, 2001

Come on, Veron is going to be a great big target for the likes of Robbie Savage. Keane is Keane. Why shouldn't we stand a chance? Bellamy is already giving Stam nightmares.

You've changed your tune Swift ;-). HAs the glamour of Barcelona worn off so that you're now hankering after a decent, honest pint and stottie instead of best Rioja and paella?
