Does AME Church have any UN Status

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

I have been under the impression that the AME Church has some United Nations' Obsever Status, thereby making it an NGO, including the Missionary Society. Is that a true reflection? If so, is there any person who knows about how has that been maximally used?

The thing is, there are several AMEs who wish to participate in the forthcoming World Conference Against Racism. They do not means or a vehicle to be there since the WCAR NGO Forum has already closed registrations on June 29th, 2001. The one way in which persons interested to participate is through organisations that have been registered adn those that already have accrediation with the UN.

The 19th Episcopal District is having Sis. Mamiki Teleko, from the Orangia Conference, representing it withing the delegation of the South African Council of Churches' delegation. Her email address, for further contact, is mamtel@webmail.co.za
