Does anybody remember the "big stink" at Emmanuel School of Religion?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

About 20 years ago there was a controversy at Emmanuel School of Religion over certain professors who were "professing" to believe that Genesis 1-11 was myth, among other things. I believe it was the father of a student who was involved.

A great deal of correspondence took place, and was circulated amongst the brotherhood.

Do any of you have that correspondence?

I would like to scan it all and offer it here.

Do any of you recall the gist of the controversy?

The outcome?

The status now of Emmanuel's doctrine?

(Do any of you have that correspondence?)

Yes I do. All of it.

(I would like to scan it all and offer it here.)

Way to much to post....and I'm not sure if it would be appropriate.

(Do any of you recall the gist of the controversy?)

What brought things to a head was the publication of a book by Christian Standard entitled...."Christian Doctrine." The book featured many authors from ESR who wrote from a neo-orthodox position.

(The outcome?)

Little....although the then president....left shortly after.

(The status now of Emmanuel's doctrine?)

A number of those teachers....are still there....and I suspect little has changed.

Appropriateness IMHO.....requires their permission.....or at least notification so that they can be given an opportunity to respond.

Also....I think it more appropriate to discuss what the stance is now......as opposed to 20 years ago.

The previous correspondence would only be good to show a connection with current thinking.

Why would it not be appropriate?
