Shoe Shining, Copyright 2001 Chris Marolf

I too have been hanging around this site since its inception. I just recently learned how to use a scanner, so I'm getting ready to post some images. I'm curious to hear if this meets your quality standards for scanning ... This picture was taken about 18 months ago on the streets of La Paz. Thanks for your comments. Chris.

My first thought was "what a jumble!", but then immediately after that, I started to like it. The red and black theme ties it all together. That's good, I get more out of it by looking longer.

I also like the motion blur at the right. I like to see a sense of time passing in a photo.

Scanning quality? Hard to say. How well does this image match the original? It doesn't look super-sharp on my monitor, but it doesn't look really soft either. Is there any detail in the black trousers in the original?

It's a little soft, and has an overall purple-pink tinge, but the intent and feel shine through. I think it would be much stronger if you could lose the two jeans-clad people on the left, or at least the guy in the background, who drags my eye away from the shoe-shiner. Without them, you'd still have a sense of someone busy in a crowd, but with a stronger composition.
