Hiya. The URL you used links to the picture page not the pic. Here's your pic.

Don't take this the wrong way, but to me it looks a little too slick. The composition, lighting and exposure are spot on, but there's a stiffness about her gaze and the way she's holding her right hand that makes me feel that this is a posed person trying a bit too hard to look natural. It looks like something from a lifestyle magazine, with beautiful people pretending to be ordinary.

not sure what to say struan, it wasn't posed (none of my shots are) and well beautiful people, i'll pass that on to ruth - she will be flattered. maybe you are reacting to the designer junk in the bg. this is a new book on hcb BTW that she was admiring.

I was just trying to say more than "very nice". I like to say why I feel the way I do when I comment here, rather than just handing out a bouquet or a brickbat. You didn't give any idea as to the purpose of the photo, so I judged it as a piece of pure visual theatre. There's an implied intimacy about the pose and lighting, but Ruth looks a litlle bit stiff and posed. as if someone had said, "look into that book while I take a picture of you" and took slightly too long about it. That stops me being drawn into the image in the way I suspect you wanted. I am too aware that this is a photograph.
