Densitometer recommendation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I'm looking for a used desitometer. I want to measure b&w negatives developed in PMK or other staining developers, so I believe I will need a color densitometer. Can anyone recommend a brand and model? Also, what will I need in terms of accessories--step tablets, etc?

X-rite 810, or Eseco Speedmaster TRD 60D. You will need a reflection step tablet and a reference transmission negative. If they are not available you can calibrate your own if you print a step tablet and take it to a photo lab and ask them to read it for you. You can find both of these in auction at E bay now...good luck.

Thanks, Jorge. Any idea what these units go for on ebay?

X-Rite 311 is also a good choice.

I have seen them for as little as 300 to as high as 700, it all depends on the condition of the unit and how greedy the seller is! since you need a color densitometer you are stuck with these choices for the money, even Arentz recomends the TR 60D so it must be good. I have a versalab and have had no problems measuring densities with film developed in pyrocathechin, (not to be confused with ptrogallol, wich is used in PMK).
