Address and Phone Number of Genuine Amish Bulk Food Storegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread
Here's the address and phone number of a genuine Old Order Amish bulk food store, they carry organic wheat products (whole wheat pastas and flours etc.), alternative medicine products, health food items, honeys, teas, etc., etc., and they sell hand made oak furniture and Stihl chain saws, of course!!! They will ship out anything, even 50 pound sacks of flour, if you send them your check and address ahead of time, as they don't do credit cards. They are wonderful people and really try to help you get what you need. They are in Garrett county in Western Maryland:
Valley View Country Store
5836 Garrett Hwy.
Oakland, Maryland 21550
I hope this helps out everyone that likes to buy organic in larger quantities without paying through the nose, and should help out anyone that has questions about woodstoves and chainsaws that wants good information from people who are living it every day!!!

Sounds great, Annie! Now, if they would pay free freight to WA state...!

They only charge the actual UPS shipping fees, no "add on" handling fees, so freight charges are quite resonable, a while ago the freight charge on a 50 pound sack of organic whole wheat was 11.00 dollars, and the cost of the wheat was 23.00 dollars, not bad, I thought! They have organic pasta and spaghetti for 1.39 a pound, very cheap! All kinds of specialty flours too, buckwheat, spelt, and baking supplies of all kinds. They sell retail at what most folks pay for wholesale, not out to get rich off of their customers, just get by.
These folks have been in the business for over 20 years, our family lives in that county, we grew up stopping there to buy pantry stock- ups even after we all "migrated" to Ohio; if they don't have it, they will order it for you at no extra cost.

Do they have a catalog, or do you just call them up and ask if they have something?

Annie... your store sounds great... just wish Ohio wasn't so far...
but an alternative for you Wisconsinites... is Mishler's Country Store south of Montello, Wi....
the actually address is W5115 Berry Road, Dalton, WI. 53926... from Madison take Hwy 22 north.. about 5 miles... County Road CM goes west (or left) and T's into Hwy 22, but the road to turn on is Berry Road, or opposite of CM... so turn right... go down about 2.5 miles and on the south side or right side of the road is Mishler's huge store... they have a sign out from and it is a separate building..
I'm seldom there when it isn't parked full... you can get fresh fruit by the bushel there if you notice them in advance... lot cheaper than the grocery store...
like Valley View store... Mishler's carries the whole line of everything... including a nice selection of stainless steel ware, books (amish recipe books) and health care items.... they carry wheat... the Praire Gold type I like ;-}... and the wheat grinder...
they are about 2 hours from myself... but it is well worth the hike there a few times a year...I stock up then... plenty of 50 pounds bags of the essentials...
