Presidents talking about "Evil Empires".

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

Clavius mentioned something about an "evil empire", he was insane of course. But wait a minute, didn't Ronald Reagan also talk about an "evil empire" in his famous speech(March 1983)? Clavius also said something like:"....we will have total defensive capability" Well, Reagan wanted the "Star Wars-program" which was a totally unrealistic idea of having giant lasers in space which would take care of any Soviet missiles or warheads before they re-entered the atmosphere. I haven't seen Utopia or D. for quite some time now and can't be sure. So, any connection? Yet another coincidence?

so what are you saying; Clavius' insanity is an anachronism for Reaganism? Clavius IS Reagan? does that mean then that Trevor is actually George Bush?

-- SteveSpicer (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

I'm not saying anything. Your ideas are the ones who count. Your opinions. I'm open to everything. Was there any connection or was there not? It's that simple. Yes or No.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

well it was your post, if youre not syaing anything it doesnt really make much for a discussion board does it.

-- SteveSpicer (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Whatever. I don't know that much about Chung, and someone might know "useful" things. I'm only here to get info about the series.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

well, what info are you after then? you posted a question on a message board and Im trying to help you find an answer. who brought up chung and how much you dont know about him? I dont remember mentioning him...

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

I didn't mention Chung. But he mentioned something about the Reagan- years and I was simply interested if anyone knew if this was his way of showing to us what he thought Reagan was like. Do you know? I'm glad. Please share your info. Is that too much to ask for? I want info, that's all. I always believed to little had been discussed about the flaws of the series. Aeon Flux was the most brilliant show of all time according to many on this forum and maybe they are right. I might have misunderstod a lot of AF.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

'is that too much to ask' are you sure youre having fun?

-- steve spicer (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Hey, I'm interested. Why do you like Aeon Flux? I would like to hear. Write a lot if possible. You probably know much more than any other person on this forum.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

well, given what you said to me in the other post, I cant help feeling thats baited sarcasm, I think youre evil apparently...

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Do you like AF or not? I respect your points of view. C'mon. Why do you like AF? I won't argue anymore or post anything if you just tell me why. I probably won't do it anyway.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

do I like AF? how masochistic do you think Id have to be to come here and engage in thoughfull discussion if I didnt have a good reason?

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Sorry, I insulted you and I was to blind to see it. Now. Why do you like the show? What's your opinion on those who thought it was junk? If it was so fantastic then how come it never took off?

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

what were you trying to say, in THIS thread, about the connection between Reagan and Flux. what were YOU thinking? or did you just want to be the one to notice?

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Pick one. Who cares really? If there was no connection so what? If there was I guess I might have thought my suspicions were correct. Chung mentioned Reagan. I don't think Reagan was as bad as all say he was. Some say he was one of the great presidents.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

some people say Hitler was a great leader and the saviour of the Father Land. 'who cares?' well you cared enough to draw our attention to it in a new subject heading. whats your stance? can you pin yourself down to even a handfull of opinions which arent borrowed?

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Hitler would have been the greatest person ever if he had won the war. He didn't ergo he was wrong. America and the allies were right. I want to find out why you liked the show. That interest me. I can't wait to read it. OK. I'm wrong and you're right. Now. Why do you like the show?

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

so because hitler 'lost' that makes him wrong by default? 'ergo he was wrong'? sprinkling latin into your sentences doesnt improve the validity of their intent, it tends to underscore a desperation to appear correct. so, does his 'losing' mean that the Final Solution was a mistake and a crime against humanity only because his wasnt the winning side?

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Why do you find Aeon Flux interesting or brilliant?

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

why cant you hold a conversation squared around your own thoughts?

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Was Aeon Flux good? If so, why do you believe they cancelled such a great show?

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

well youve quoted aeon from Utopia or Deuteronopia, End Sinister and The Demi-Urge, so you surely have a well established opinion on how good the show was...

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Your opinions of the show are interesting to me. I have a pretty good idea why it never took off. Was Aeon Flux art? I've never seen anything about AF being written in culture-pages. People who like AF seem to be a rare kind. That's why they're interesting. Very interesting. Info is everything. I want info on the show but I also like to read about how fluxphiles think and what makes them tick. On this forum you find interesting people. Really interesting. I love reading their thoughts, sometimes just to be suprised by some odd comment. You'll find all sorts of people here, that's really "funny". No, really it is. Aeon Flux made me laugh. I laugh while listening to skinhead-music. They are full of hate and that's funny. Did I like Aeon Flux? Well, you figure out that yourself. I love reading all the questions that end up here. BUT SOMETIMES THERE'S A FINE LINE BETWEEN GENIOUS AND INSANITY. Some people on this forum are "interesting" and "interesting" could mean anything really.

Please take no offense.

none taken.

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 11, 2001.

Actually I should have mentioned this was meant for everyone not just you.

-- Vercingetorix (danijel_peek_a_boo242@hotmail.com), July 11, 2001.

Listen to this everybody! "You seem pretty petty and unsure". Pure speculation! Actually it's more like an intended insult of some sort. Would Einstein insult you or Russell? Too bad. All these articulate arguments are fine but somehow they don't matter because of the insults, THEY ARE REALLY OUT OF PLACE. Any smart person would never use cheap insults if their arguments were enough!

Here's how it should have been done: "Please V. you're drifting to much and this forum is all about AF. No more ideas of your own, it's getting out of hand."

Speculations are also totally useless and just guesses. Any smart or mature person wouldn't need cheap insults.

Mature people argue with each other and respect their point of views. Insults and aggressive behaviour is IRRATIONAL in a so called smart argument.

ANY HAPPY PERSON WHO DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM AND WAS CONTENT WITH THE LIVES THEY LIVED WOULDN'T GO THROUGH THE ROOF AND USE SHITTY INSULTS TO BOOST ARTICULATE ARGUMENTS. THEY MOST CERTAINLY WOULDN'T LOOSE THEIR TEMPER ON A PERSON WHO WAS ON A DIFFERENT WAVELENGHT AS THEMSELVES.

My rules in life? There are some who are aggressive for some reason. Maybe because they hate the world or they are plain "evil". Whenever someone show patterns that are "wrong" their world crumbles.

Bertrand Russell: "The tragedy of our world is that dumb people are always correct and the smart ones are full of doubt."

Articulate arguments combined with cheap mindless insults. IS THAT BIZARRE OR WHAT??????????? Even for this forum it's bizarre to say the least.

Response to Presidents talking about "Evil Empires"

(gets between steve and V) Hey, I like to argue as much as the next guy, but you two are getting nowhere. Break it up, or move the discussion to email...

-- Inukko (nadisrec@worldnet.att.net), July 12, 2001.

Im sorry Inukko, I didnt mean for this to become uncomfortable and directionless. Ive taken your advice.
