Leeds and Dyer

Today's stories soundgo. remarkably plausible. Personally, I'm starting to half hope the w*nker does go.

Talking to an old friend on Monday whose daughter works in a large Newcastle hotel. Apparently Dyer and Cort turned up with two slappers one evening and asked for a room for four. The girl said they did not have any 4 person rooms so he left saying "don't tell anyone we've been here" So Bobby's fatherly chats do not seem to have any effect. My own view has always been if you don't want to play for NUFC then go.

Personally i would sell him for 18-20 and then buy Juniho for 5.5.

Anybody else up for selling him?

NOOOOOOOOOO

Link this with the story that Keegan thinks we've never replaced Beardsley. The closest we've got is Dyer. Dyer is still younger than Beardsley was when he joined us to play in the old second division, still three years younger than Beardsley was when he got into the England side. Dyer may not have the Geordieness of Beardsley, nor the clean living but he potentially has the ability. If you are happy to sell Dyer for big money then you must also have been happy when Beardsley went for big money.

Once that precedent has been set for the 2000s then we off an running again. Along comes Michael Chopra, say, proves himself the most natural forward we've ever had and Spurs come and buy him as soon as he's just proving his worth. That would be fine cos then we could buy four new players with the money.

If you think the money is worth having then go an apply to be on the board, they are crucified for being motivated by money and you all seem to be of the same mind.

Pah.

MacBeth, I think you are missing the point. We aren't talking about the commercial element or the logic of selling him. We are noting that he's a twat. I agree that we shouldn't be selling him because it gives off the wrong messages. Furthermore, we couldn't get any players to come here to spend the 20 million we'd get for him. Nonetheless, he is a grade one w....r.

Lets make up a story of our own to match the Leeds one

"Inter Milan are confident that they have persuaded Mark Viduka to come to Italy, depsite reports to the contrary in Yorkshire. Viduka will be paid an estimated 50 billion lira (£40,000) per week, tax free, to join the sleeping Italian giants. Viduka has also told Inter officials that international team mate Harry Kewel has intimated to him that he too wishes to move to Italy, and would jump at playing with the best players in the world. Inter hope to complete the double signing over the next few days.

David O'Leary is privately furious at both the Italians and Viduka for their roles in unsettling is jewel of Kewel (ooh). He has demanded that Viduka come to a showdown meeting but in the way of want away players Viduka seems completely uninterested in his current club now he's set his heart on a big money move. Leeds fans must hope Kewel is more loyal but they know in their hearts that they've done the same to other star players to get them to some to Elland Road and it serves the bastards right."

Or words to that effect. Soon turn the Leeds fans off Kewell ?

Who on here wouldn't have sold him after the first 10 games of last season where he was erm dire.

Point is that dyer is still recovering from a major operation, therefore he would fail any medical!! So if indeed he does want to go then it wont be until hes proved his fitness. In the mean time if we sign zenden and roberts, we could progress and dyer might decide to stay. Only exploring possibilities!!

Leeds are denying having even asked about Dyer's availability...

-- Anonymous, July 05, 2001

If he wants to go, then take the money and run. If he wants to stay, then by all means don't sell. No point in keeping him if he wants to be somewhere else, but let's make sure first.

he is a grade one w....r.

Quite the reverse according to most accounts. :-)

LOL, Jonno - you're on good form today.

So if Dyer didn't say all of this then he's neither a W**ker or a Tw*t. He's stated that he would like the team to be strengthened with some quality and that he is happy to stay. I for one think he wants the same as me to see Newcastle win SOMETHING. I cannot see how this makes him the anti christ.

Stand aside and look at this situation from the outside, PLLLLLEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSE.

I find it incredibly insulting that Leeds United a seriously smaller Football Club in comparison use these tactics. Leeds a club who would be averaging 23000 if they had to watch what we watched last year are playing these 'coup trump card' games.

What a kin insult to us fans, us fans who put up with shite but still spend more than every other club (bar Newton H) in an economic context. Sheps if your listening: the 20million is shite, let leeds eat their cake for 28million at least.

P.S. BTW Dyers market value is at least 23million, but as Leeds are so massive they should pay more, thus it should be this massive club's responsibility to support the football pyramid of us other football clubs. Thank god for Leeds, LEEDS, LEEDS and LEEEEDS

"Leeds are denying having even asked about Dyer's availability...".

Deja vu - aka Rio Ferdinand!

"......he (Dyer) potentially has the ability (of Beardsley)".

Absolutely no way Jose - not even close!

bollox!

dunno beardsley hadn't played in the top division by this time in his career, his wonder goals against Brighton and Portsmouth were against lower division defences, at comparable stages in their careers there is no comparison in achievements.

Beardsley was always a year behind Waddle in development, and leaving. For me the turning point in his career was the hat tirck on New Years Day when he bossed a game on his own. Up to that point he hadn't had responsibility thrust upon him as either Keegan or Waddle were his superior. From then on he was excellent as opposed to very very good. He was just 24 in Janury 1985. Dyer has 18 months until a similar comparison can be made.

As a man, or as a class of human being we may be able to make comparisons but not yet as footballers. Give it ten years !!

Hhhmm. Fair does.

-- Anonymous, July 05, 2001

Until I see the headline "Dyer loses cock and grows a spine" then I'll be happier to take the money. I don't want to be stuck here in 3 years time with the new Dizzie Gillespie on our hands happy for any return on him. He's no superman and his greatest asset (pace) will be first to go, that decline accelarated by being a piss-artist.

I don't want him showing the youngsters at this club how not to conduct their lives. Let him go to Leeds and help the rest of them get locked up.

i could be convinced by both arguments

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2001

God, what's the fuss, he keeps saying he'll stay. He enjoys going out on the tap, on the toon during his holidays with his team-mates, bliddy hell, what more does he need to do to prove he's one of us?

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2001

Dave, he's not one of us. You wouldn't pay to watch me play football. If you did then you would conclude that what talent I had was in no way enhanced by my knocking back x pints of Guinness before the match.

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2001

Just rewind three years and replace Dyer's name in all this transfer talk with Shearer's. Press can't cope with us having a talented player and will make up stories to prove a player is to leave.

Lets say Shola improves by the same amount this season he did last and is in the England squad for the World Cup (lots of daft assumptions there !), the press would be having a field day at him moving to Man U/Arsenal etc, it would be obvious he wouldn't want to be at Newcastle. (I'd love someone to remember this e-mail in a year's time when he is in the England squad !!)
