Thinking Outside the Box: CS Salvaging

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Excuse me if this seems obvious; it just occurred to me that this could get all the way around the problem of salvaging good material posted on the CS Forum. Why not simply save whatever material you wish and direct it to a floppy disk? Save a disk worth of stuff (around 1 meg), then label a new floppy and save another meg worth. If someone needs the info, copy the disk, loan it to him by postal mail. All personal use, nothing posted anywhere, nothing sold, and nothing lost if you put it on floppies.

Obviously, you could get real sophisticated for people with newer, bigger computers and even put the info on CD's or zip disc or tape.

If there is a problem with this idea maybe someone more computer/internet savy can point it out. Likewise, someone more computer skilled may know an even better way to do this alone these same lines and could explain the method here.
