Lens and Body not communicating

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have been experiencing problems with one of my EOS 1nHS bodies. I have tried using different E1 power boosters and the problem still occurs. The problem is that the autofocus system will not operate, depth of field preview is inoperable also, and shutter release will not open the shutter even when the lens is in mf mode. I have tried new batteries and the problem still persists. I have tried different combinations of lenses and bodies /boosters but no luck. I have had similar problems to this in the past but on those occasions the weather has been cold and damp and usually 10 minutes in the Billingham sorts it out. Any ideas at all before i succumb to the Canon service fee? Oh, one final thought-when i put 28-135mm is lens on the body the is system didn't spark into life either. I confirmed to myself it wasn't the lens by mounting it on another body and everything worked as it should.

Many thanks in advance

Does the shutter work with no lens mounted? If it does, there is probably something wrong with your lens mount contacts. I'd just try cleaning them with a pencil eraser.

If the shutter doesn't fire even without a lens mounted, I have no clue.

The shutter will release without a lens mounted, and if the lens is in mf mode. I have tried cleaning the contacts on the body and the lens, but to no avail. I think this could be service time-and the body is only 15 months old.
