This website has a comprehensive list of layoffs. I copied an interesting layoff which consists of a manufacturing plant closing because they can buy ammonia cheaper from third parties than manufacturing their own. I wonder why?

Cytec Industries Incorporated West Paterson, NJ and Waggaman, LA Citing the need to reduce overhead and cut production costs, Cytec Industries Inc. has closed its ammonia plant in Waggaman and cut 100 jobs. The New Jersey chemical company said it expects to save $7 million in annual costs and plans a $6 million restructuring charge in the second quarter. The Waggaman ammonia plant has been idle intermittently since December. For much of this time, Cytec found it cheaper to buy ammonia from third parties than to produce it.
