Wadsworth quits

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Ronnie Gill - Wadsworth quit to join Saints. I know a lot on here will rejoice but I cannot help worrying that things at the club are far from right. The Chief Executive and now the Head Coach have resigned.

You are joking?

I can't say i'm unhappy about this....i've become more and more worried about our coaching methods after last season....

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Bugger, we wont get Paul Murray now!!! AM :-)

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

a great opportunity to bring in a decent coach, any bets on JOSE MAURINHO, Bobbys oldest coach friend in footy...

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Hasn't he already turned us down once?

Not unhappy to see Wadsworth go, but given Bobby's recruitment record so far, why assume we'll get anyone better?

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Lets just rejoice in this and forget about any potential downside. Some people were uncommitted on the guy, but no one was positive about him. He's gone, lets move on.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I agree. I wonder if the papers will have us linked to every football coachas 'we can sign anyone'AM

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Great, how about the ex-Celtic coach Wim whatever he's called, now there's a bloke with an eye for a player as well as a good coach.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

now there's a bloke with an eye for a player as well as a good coach.

Would that be Volvo, Duple or Van Hool? I've seen quite a few coaches on the motorway, but as to which is the best, I'd better defer to Wim van Wrinkle or whatever he's called.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

The way I see it, the fans' scapegoat was sacked to revive flagging season ticket sales.

Which Barcelona player are you linked with this week by the way?

Give me cheap tickets over spin any day.

Just spoken to a couple of mad mag pals of mine and they are extremely worried. They both felt that Wadsworth was a poor coach and responsible for a lot of problems on the pitch BUT they reckon that they are disappointed that he is leaving not because (in their eyes) he was poor but because of the message it sends to the outside world and that is that NUFC are a club that are on the verge of freefall...

The securitised bondholders are awaiting season ticket numbers and are not feeling good and Wadsworth, along with shearer was absolutely dismayed with the Intertoto application and acceptance....

Bobby has given up and is too old and too tited to get to grips with it all and David Stonehouse is not being too guarded with his views on how the club has been run by Freddy and Douglas....

You can put on the best face you can BUT you have to be really concerned that Wadsworth thinks that Southampton is the place to be as opposed to NUFC....

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

hola mc, It's funny but SPORT paper is the biggest sinner when it comes to linking every player going to Barca...only to see them leave for Madrid...Barca are a sinking ship at the minute, "the barca mags" say they aren't in the top 15 teams in Europe at present. Plus, i think they still feel a bit bitter about us tonking them at SJP...

all in all who really cares?

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Get Pedro in as first team coach. Or get Steve Clark back.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Roly, i reckon Wadsworth helped to stifle the team. A decent coach could really transform fortunes. Results ON the pitch HELP results OFF it. Perhaps there is a change a coming? again.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Now here's a scary thought.....

...Bryan Robson!

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Besides which, was McClaren's departure from Man Yew a sign that Boro are bigger? People come and go, Roly.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

And he's gone from Coach to Asst Mgr....

So what's Stonehouse being saying that you're alluding to or are you just shit stirring?

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I'm not convinced that there's any single member of the coaching staff at any level is up to the job. Pedro has only accepted a relatively junior appointment, Barton has just finished (finishing?) his certificate, Lee is probably too politicised, and Shearer is needed on the pitch.

I'd expect YBR to be making some phone calls to old pals near and far.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Aye but Dougal...

they have:

Ferguson as manager are in the CL have won loads of silverware in the last few years have a fantastic 67,000 all seater stadium have a great team of players already have strength in depth in the coaching set-up make good profits have a healthy strong balance sheet have a global franchise and have robust corporate governance with upper quartile management

Now say what you said again.......

I think wonkeys idea is the best!!!!

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

We pushed Wadsworth out.

No one had a good word to say about him. Would you stay if you were him?

As for a replacement , Is Roy Hodgson available?

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

he's skipped his contract at some scando club to go to UDINESE.

bit of afters there Gav?

MW fffing off to the Saints could turn out to be a very important development in our future.
1) Bob's deed old.
2) Shearer (a future manager, I think most people would agree he's in the equation) is needed on the field and will give another three seasons service, if you believe the bollox he's been spouting of late.
So, continuity in football is very important therefore this role - head first team coach; Bob's closest advisor; feller to give post match telly interviews when Bob hoys a wobbler; advisor on new players; tactical innovator; organiser of training ground good practice; man to work in harmony with the jokers who run the footy business; person to communicate, motivate, shout-at and understand young millionaires, showman, salesman phew!.
He also has to be popular with the Toon Army. I’ve heard Mick Buxton just might be available.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Hodgson has just gone to Udinese, and Bryan Robson has less coaching acumen than Wadsworth.
I'm not too @rsed about MW leaving, but his possible reasons for leaving do concern me, as does our ability to lure a top coach as his replacement.

As someone else has said, with this coming so close to Stonehouses exit, clearly things are not right within the walls of SJP, and if the Intertoto entry was undertaken without the full concurrence of team management, you have to wonder just who might be next out the door!!

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I have just emailed my CV to the club.

I have been told that I stand a good chance at the job. The conditions will be the same as for Wadsworth regarding remuneration (attention ML#4).

The clincher will be that, as money is tight at the moment, I can use all the training tops that Wadsworth had without new ones with new initials on them being bought!

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Sorry but i'm not letting any of these conspiracy theories get me down....this is a GREAT day for the club and i'm gonna enjoy it!

However, i agree that no-one currently at the club should be given the role....

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

The suggestion for Bryan Robson got me thinking. Not that I'd want him, but the guy who was his "head coach" last season at Boro has some pretty good qualifications and track record.........;-)

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I've been a lurker on here for a while, but feel its time to break cover and actually make a contribution. I don't think that there is anything sinister in Wadsworth's departure. Wadsworth still fancies his chances as a manager. He knows that if he stays at SJP there is no chance of him ever achieving that. He's offered the job of assistant manager at Southampton and given Gray's dreadful efforts at the tail end of last season probably feels that the mangers job will be vacant by October at the latest. He would then be in the best position to step into the job.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

And a 5 year contract with ITV Screach ;)) anyway.....he was SO GOOD! that it took him from xmas to the last game of the season to stop them going down....

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Manic , welcome to the BBs.

I was thinking the same thoughts as you were.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I think he saw the writing on the wall with the result of that poll the chronic ran. The chance came so he took it. There's another poll result in today's that has the majority glad he's gone.

I don't see his reason for going as anything more sinister than that.

I don't think there's any more of a stink around the place than there's always been - all we do is use a de-odourising spray occasionally.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I think Mick Wadsworth is really the Queen Mother. I am pretty sure none of you have ever seen him/her ever speak, you have no direct experience of anything they have ever done, they are a direct drain on your resources. Must be.

Although I haven't heard anybody suggest that Wadsworth smells of pee

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Well he didn't when I was standing next to him at the training ground last December. But it was just after training, so he might have just showered. ;-))

As I've said before, I never could really figure the guy out, or more specifically why I never seemed to have a good feeling about him. I don't honestly think we're losing much with his departure, and think this is a wonderful opportunity to bring someone in who really can take over from Bobby in a year or two.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Actually (and Screacher ill confirm this) We walked past BR and Wadsworth at a friendly against Blth last season and one of them did smell of wee. Obviously it wasn't our 68 year manager, so it musrt have been wadsworth.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Rik - "our 68 year manager"

You might have found the root to our problems there Rik, consistency! ;O)

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Oh - I thought that was you Rik ;-) But I didn't want to say anything which might embarrass you.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

The only person I understand didn't want to be in the Intertoto was Shearer & he is just a player not a member of management & I suspect he's just lazy.

This is a great opportunity to bring in Fazackerly and maybe an ex- player Venners, Bez and Brace to join the coaching staff with a view to one being Manger after Bobby.

UNITED LAUNDRY LADY RESIGNS SHOCK. "The club is falling apart" said a typical BBS member today when it was revealed that Gladice Blenkinsop, who has washed United's shirts for the past 12 years has resigned apparently to stay at home and care for an ageing relative. "That'll be what she's been told to say" said a typical BBS member, "But this is yet another example of the cancer at the heart of this club. She's obviously upset at having to do extra shirts for the Inter Toto. It's been hushed up but I know of at least 3 stewards and one tea-lady who will not be at the club next season. The place is coming apart at the seams."

Good grief! Nobody's had a good word for Wadsworth but now his resignation presages an end-of-the-world scenario! It seems that only the slightest excuse is needed for wailing and gnashing of teeth to begin!

Courage lads and lasses. New season. New signings. Time for HOPE. An optimist may well be someone who hasn't fully assessed the situation, but it's simply more fun than pessimism. You'll have ample time for doom and gloom when we've lost our first 6 games, sold Dyer & Hughes, seen Bellamy failing to command a place on the bench at Kingston Park, ditched plans for the academy, and witnessed Rivaldo break both his legs 3 minutes into his Toon debut (during which he misses a penalty)!

Get real! No - I mean don't get real - I think.

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Seriously though--where is Fazackerly at the moment? He is the best Coach we have had in many a year and we started to go down soon after he left--or am I just wishing for some of the play we enjoyed when he and KK were around! Fifties Fan PS I'm not sorry to see Wadsworth leave. He obviously never knew what a "through ball" was(we never used it and our defence could never see one coming!)

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

Bobby has stated he's not interested in an ex player with a big name, so i'm nominating Franz Carr, or even better Ruel Fox.

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

I think Derek is still licking his wounds after the Keegan / England debacle.

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

Swift there was an interview with Ian Ure in the Scotsman a couple of weeks ago, I know he didn't play for us but he meets the other criteria

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

Ba (who we turned away after a failed medical and now is turning it on for Milan) could be an option when he finishes thinking about football

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

Jonno, I also heard that 300 new members of the cattering /match day staff have been recruited for next season. Everyone's quitting the club, we really are up shit creek mate.

As for the new assistant, Ray Harfords name seems to be doing the rounds.

BTW Derek Frazaterly is assistant at Barnsley. Wasn't he a physio when he was here last?

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

Swift .... Dr No for the medical staff ?
