Poole, you don't know how to run a site!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poole's Roost II : One Thread

Well you have a lot to learn. Of course you haven't studied under Ed. This afternoon, at Unc's, I have had 4 or 5 messages deleted. Remember Dan, he has had 2 deleted. Old Timer [I won't tell you his real identity, but he was here early on] has had two or more deleted. Anita, Zap. It goes on.

Unc, the moron, has decided that you have to say that you love someone in the post or your message will be deleted. Man this is worse than just being deleted because Ed didn't like what you had to say. My opinion of the remaining members has really dropped. I won't go back there again.

Best Wishes,,,,,

OK Poole:

What do you think of the policy? Do we have to say we love someone to post here. *<)))

You are missing an opportunity to control people. Fat chance with the people here.

Z--

Things were getting a little ugly at Unk's, don't ya think? Unk has made a statement with his little joke. You should go back there and post an "I love you" to everyone.

Tomorrow it will be back to snarling normalcy.

Lars:

You and I don't agree on a lot of things, but , in my opinion, you are a fine person.

Nope, I will not allow someone to tell me what I must put in a post. I am amazed, that someone who knows as much as you do about the rise of Hitler and the work of JG, would make that statement. Of course, Unc is not trying to create a 4th Reich, but the approach is the same. Think about it. I am sure that you have.

RECORD

As of now, Unc has deleted 7 of my posts. That is my record for a day. When we had the big argument over Flint, Ken and Jon, Ed only deleted 6 of my posts before he banned me from everything.

Oh well, Unc holds the record. He is the new Ed. *<)))

Well it's nice to be number one! Really, the feeling cannot be described!

Z,

I am sorry you chose not to have fun with the rest of us today.

Best wishes,

Unk

Unk, don’t waste your breath on this puffed-up piss ant.

-- Anonymous, July 01, 2001

The irony is that if Z were on vacation or away from his computer for today, he probably would never have even known about the decree.

Or, he could have simply chosen not to post there for today. It was only a 24 hour decree. Funny that Z doesn't seem to mention that. Perhaps he wants that information censored.

LOL

Z,

I've never responded to one of your posts before, but this whole little fracas with Unc compels me to do so now.

Lighten up, bud....you're coming across as having a severe case of pickle-up-the-butt-itis.

I love beer....oh, this isn't Unc's forum. Never mind.

Z,

To be fair to Deedah, I do believe it was a Joke-With-A-Message sort of thingie. Kindof like when I threatened to delete any tax protestor the instant his "flat, brainless head appeared over the transom." [g]

(And I DID delete one such post, as I recall.)

It's his house. He may run it however he likes. I realize that you shouldn't be lumped with the crap-droppers, but hey. I doubt if he'll do it again (anymore than I plan to start deleting tax protestors again, not even as a joke).

(Even though they DO have flat, brainless heads.[g])

To be honest, no more than I'm here, I don't know what I'd do if I came home from work one day and found some of the crap that adorns his site. I don't have time to police it, so I'd probably just tell Phil thanks for the time and to close it.

Deedah,

I love you, man. :)

(But did you HAVE to delete *Z*?)

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

Yes Stephen, I had to delete Z. He would not tell anyone that he loved them. The funny thing is that I expected the howling and whining to come from the trolls and hit and run assholes who have trashed my place up.

I have always let anyone say what they want because folks cried about being censored. And because I do that the place is noisy and messy, so then folks say "This place is too mean and nasty, I'm leaving".

And now poor Z has had his feelings hurt because I wanted to have one day of fun. Too bad for him.

As one who has been the recipient of much "cyber-hate", I thought it was a blast.

Z, perhaps if you had experienced the treatment I (and others) have, you might have seen it a bit differently. But I don't see the necessity of calling Unk a "moron", nor do I see the reason that your "opinion of the remaining members has really dropped". Why, because they didn't think like you did? Isn't that what you're complaining about?

Thanks, Unk. You should have "theme days" more often.

Hi, Stephen. Hope you are well.

"Z" has some personal issues to deal with, methinks....

Like someone up there said, if you found the joke too silly and beneath you, Z, you could have abstained from posting in the forum for one whole day.

I hereby propose that every time Z posts at Unk's from now on, if you respond, let him know you love him somwehere in the message. Consider it a form of therapy, Z!

Sorry Poole:

I just don't agree. I had no way of knowing what Unc was doing. I just know that I was deleted 7 times based on content. I simply won't put-up with that. I am a vet. of the Ed and Diane wars. My experience is "if you put up with that crap" it only gets worse. So I don't put-up with it. Just my experience.

Bemused, Unc and other respondents from the board; I share your amusement, but simply don't agree with your assessment. Deletion is not a joke if you want to develop a community. But then, maybe you want a different kind of community. As I said and you deleted, your place and your choice.

Reminder of what you deleted Unc: Best to you and your wife; have some fun cause that is what life is all about. This is really not that important to either of us.

Best Wishes,,,,

Z

Unc:

The above is a reminder; when you start deleting people then the readers only get one side of the story. Doesn't work all that well does it? Doesn't for me. No one knows what I said. That is why I am opposed.

Well to repeat myself; it isn't that big of a deal. So go and have fun.

Best Wishes,,,,

"No one knows what I said"

So what's new?

-- Anonymous, July 03, 2001

I said thank you for your kind wishes Z, and I thank you again.

All in all it was your choice whether to refrain form posting, get deleted, or tell somebody you love them, just for one day. One day, out of the many that have passed since November of last year. If you care to post there now you are welcome, if you chose not to, you are welcome.

Best wishes,

Unk

Rabidity sucks regardless the excuse.

Love you Z, but adios!

My experience is "if you put up with that crap" it only gets worse.

Except that in this case, it didn't.

Deletion is not a joke if you want to develop a community.

Except when the community realizes it's a joke. Pollies, doomers, people who were also veterans of the Ed and Diane wars, they all realized it. The only one who didn't realize this was YOU. And you still fail to acknowledge that this was intended to be in place for a SINGLE DAY.

But then, maybe you want a different kind of community.

It appears that he wants a community that has a sense of humor.

Yes Carlos, it does. But then don't judge someone else until you have walked in his/her deletions. As I recall, you were a big supporter of ED. Does it mean anything; well not to me, but it is a sign in the mountains. If you have spent some time there you will know what I mean.

One:

Except that in this case, it didn't. Of course it did. But then you are willing to take orders. Now Unc is a good guy; I have never had any trouble with him. I like him. But, arbritrary orders are another thing. None of this is important; go and have fun. Nothing that we do here will change the world. No use in getting upset about it.

Still, one can control at least part of their world. I do mine; you should do the same.

Best Wishes,,,,

Carlos:

Since I am leaving home again, I thought that I would expand on the mountain thing; just in case that you didn't understand. I do have a great photo of me on an ice fall but I can't find it at the moment.

If you have climbed much, you will know what I am talking about. If someone fails to set a bolt or jam an axe correctly, then someone else can be killed. You don't hate that person and you don't exclude them from your life. Still, you don't climb with them anymore. [Porter would understand]. Doing this stuff in my youth has clearly changed my view of life. That is how I see things. CPR has a cut and burn view of the Y2K thing; he came to it from a different background; but it may be similar in many ways.

Think about it. When you are climbing, one mistake is possibly lethal. You want to avoid the one mistake. Makes you think about stuff.

Best Wishes,,,,

I understand what you're saying, Z, but don't you think that's a bit of an extreme example? We're talking about ONE DAY (and not even an ENTIRE DAY) on one little Internet forum that is otherwise censor-free. I mean, come on; look at some of the idiocy and nonsense that gets posted day after day and STAYS!

I don't think it's a fair comparison.

Yes, having been the "victim" of an awful lot of (what I feel to be) unwarranted "cyber-hate", I am partisan here. Yes, it fed my pathetic little ego to have a couple of people say, "Love you, Patricia". I don't care if they MEANT it or not; they thought enough to SAY IT.

I thought it was fun. And in a lot of ways, I DO love a lot of those people. They're just plain nice. And fun.

I really hope you change your mind, but I understand if you don't.

I love you Patricia!

Woo hoo!!! Ego Meter up another few points.

Wish I had been able to go to M.B., Unk :-(

Love ya back.
