How to convert LD player to play VCD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have an old LD player which plays the old large 12" LD and audio CD. I was told that I can convert it to play VCD. Can some one told me how to do it ? Where I can buy the components to do the conversion. I can do soldering my self. I am not sure if it can be converted to play DVD too ?

The answer is NO. Old LD players are designed to play LD disk only. This is done based on analog technology. VCD, DVD are digital. It does not worth to even try to convert your old LD player (not even possible). Some DVD player cost less than 100$ nowaday.

Here are two websites to check - contrary to what the previous reply was. If you do find out the cost of one of these cards, can you please send me an email. I am interested - but maybe later

PS. As I read it, you have to find the decoder chip in your player (and there is a list of chips somewhere), locate the RF pin and just solder a connection from there to the add on card
