Wadsworth to Southampton

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

From TeamBollox:

Meanwhile, the same newspaper claims that South Coast outfit Southampton are eyeing Mick Wadsworth to become the new number two at St Mary's. The Saints, who recently unveiled Stuart Gray as their new manager, are said to have turned their attentions to the Magpies director of coaching with it appearing that Ray Harford, who has been tipped for the job, is set to stay at Millwall.

BS but kinda fun anyway

According to Ronnie (according to NUFC.COM) the deal is done. Wadsworth gas gone to Soton. Now, quite where this leaves NUFC on the ocaching front remains to be seen. Where did Steve Clarke go to??? Or Derek Faz???

Maybe TeamBollox where right for the first time! Weehaa, this is better then a Zenden signing.

Is this good or bad news? I don't really know a lot about Wadsworth apart from the fact that he "masterminded" our first clean sheet in 29 games last season.

I have an idea.

How about we bring in Gullit and Dalglish as joint coaches and see where we end up?

Personally, I would like to see a top European coach given a big wad of cash to ply his trade at the Toon, someone in the Eriksson mould maybe.

the new number two at St Mary's

From what I read on here it seems he is very well qualified as a "number two". :-)

According to The Journal this morning, Bobby Robson was livid yesterday to find that MW was being allowed to leave without any real attempt being made to keep him, and on finding the Club had already agreed a compensation figure with Southampton.

He demanded to meet with the Board urging them offer Wadsworth an improved contract, which became an angry confontation. FS was unable to make the hastily arranged meeting, but the newspaper are questioning how deep the rift between Bobby and the Board now is!

MW is quoted as saying "I am disappointed at some of the criticism that has come my way during my time at Newcastle, because the club is in a far better position than when I arrived. I feel I have played my part in that revival and I am proud with what I have achieved at United".

He insisted that he did not want to leave the Toon, but did admit "In terms of money and long-term security the S'ton offer was just too good to ignore".

Very interestingly he then adds "Nobody seems to know what will happen to the long-term coaching set-up at Newcastle, and I did not feel my future role at the Club was clear. I have left for purely financial reasons. I have always enjoyed working with BR, he is my role model and an inspiration to me. I know he is bitterly disappointed that I am leaving, but I think he understands the reasoning behind my decision".

Faint whiffs of dirty underwear ?

Why is my completely illogical, based on no evidence that would stand up in a kangaroo court let alone any other, gut feeling about shepherd constantly being reinforced ?

Please, somebody, explain and put me out of my misery, or at least tell me I'm not totally alone.

A very interesting piece Clarky and it raises a lot of questions.

What criticism has MW received other than chit chat in this type of forum?

Is the club really in a far better position than when he arrived?

What revival?

Nobody seems to know what will happen to the long-term coaching set- up at Newcastle - surely YBR is charged with responsibility for this?

A rift between YBR and the board would be serious and I daresay there is rarely smoke without fire. If either was doing a good job it would be easy to take sides but in the circs whose side should we be on?

Nah, you aren't alone, PB. Though I'd say we have far more reason to think there's something rotten in the state of FS, than with MW.

Who knows what this next season will bring for us? One thing is for sure...it won't be boring.

Thanks Ciara, I was dead worried I'm the only one suffering from this freddyshepard-is-persecuting-me paranoia.

All of this reinforces the information I have from reliable sources (who could be more reliable than a Tory voting alcoholic divorce pending builder) that wor Robert is at daggers drawn with the vulgarity that is S and H.
