Welcome home son

Well it's 4 years since Robbie Elliot left us, and a couple of days until he returns.

I for one always thought he was a far better defensive full back than Beresford, that he had a wonderfully psotive Geordie attitude and that he should never have been sold. As a left sided defender/midfield player he managed 7 goals in his last 15 games for us. If he can manage 7 goals from anywhere for us next season I'll be delighted.

Robbie's coming home

Arriving postively

well said. In amongst all the doom and gloom, the return of a player who actually WANTS to play for the Toon is a bright spot.

howay... certainly the need for players who WANT to play for us is a welcome sight. The fact that Elliot is a quality player and is securing a "weak" spot for us is an added bonus. Welcome home Robbie, we've missed you.

Yep, welcome hyem, son. My only concern regarding our defensive position is where Aaron fits on...I mean, how long will he be happy on the bench after doing so well last season? I just don't see a berth for him.

Mind you, should our usual injury luck prevail, he'll probably be our only constant for yet another season...

Happy to see Robbie coming home. Not sure he's really the quality of player we should be looking to bring in, but he will provide some additional squad depth - which could prove invaluable the way things are going.

Beresford claims that the sale of Elliot was the beginning of the end. Maybe his return is the start of a revival.

Or am I spouting romantic crud?

no, Robbie is a top lad

I believe Bez meant that Robbie was well liked by all the players, and his sale was taken very badly in the dressing room. I believe he said that the sale of Elliott and Clark took the heart out of the Club.

Curiously, I feel he may it strange for Robbie coming back, and quite difficult to become established again. Most of the playing squad weren't here when he left, and he isn't exactly coming in as an established star, or an international. Some of them could be a little sniffy towards him, and it will need some work from people like Rob Lee and Alan Shearer to help him integrate again.

Local Hero returns to a local heroes welcome

Some of you lads and lasses have changed your tune a bit. Last month he was a useless crock this week you're all welcoming him with open arms.

our BEST summer signing!

-- Anonymous, July 02, 2001

I think some are just glad to see a professional who wants to play for us turn up - and a local to boot. For me, I was hoping for more than a 100% committed lad being signed for us...like a world class footballer, which however way you cut it, wor Robbie ain't.

No harm in welcoming the lad home, though
