CALLING ELECTRONICS TINKERERS - Got a wacko scale

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

The numbers on my digital scale keep changing. I.e., it goes from 160 to 165 to 159 to 172, etc. A change of battery doesn't help. Is it the chip? Should I kick it or something? And, no, I am not skipping rope while I'm weighing myself.

I had this problem. I changed the batteries twice (used new ones, rather than stored ones the second time) -- didn't work. Tossed out the scale and bought a manual one. That was 4 years ago. The manual one still works fine. Can't say the same about the digital ones. I went through 3 or 4 of them.

Oh. I got this one cos the manual one lied. It really did.

Guess I need to check Consumer Reports next time. Meanwhile, I'll live in blissful ignorance.

where was DH when you were weighing yourself? And the cats?

Is it on carpet? Is there anything around it that may affect its reading? Bath towel, socks, geiger counter, someone else's foot? Cats?

Have you been feeling lighter or heavier lately? Maybe they are beaming some sort of ray into your home to make you sick and it is affecting the scale?

Make sure you are alone when you weigh yourself next time. And keep the windows closed and shuttered. Don't forget to wear your tinfoil hat...

Damn, I forgot the hat.
