External filter for 300mm f/4.0L

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

The Canon FD 300mm f/4.0L lens takes internal filters, and has no provision for a screw in filter in front to protect against dust or damage. I needed dust protection on a recent trip, so I constructed a filter using some clear optical film that slipped over the front of the hood. It worked, but the film would catch the sun at certain angles and reduce contrast. Does anyone know if there is a better solution to this problem?

Your answer may be the same as mine. I have the non-L version of the lens and I suspect they share similar threads at the front of the lens. Please see my Photo.Net question, "In Search of the Mysterious 78.5mm Threaded Filter" and note my own response further down.

Thanks, but unfortunately the L version has no front filter threads at all.
