Class, we will start again because it seems that Mr. D was not paying attention.

Are all species the same as all other species? Johnny?

Johnny: No, Mr. Nipper. If every species was the same, they would all be the same species.

Very good! So what does Mr Darwin have to say about people and apes being the same species as each other? Sally?

Sally: He doesn't say we are the same species as apes. He says we're different - that we evolved into a whole new species that never existed before.

Very good! Now, should the fact that humans act different than apes be a surprise? Tommy?

Tommy: No, Mr. Nipper. When species evolve, they often evolve new behaviors. Otherwise, they probably wouldn't have had any reason to evolve.

Excellent! So, does the fact that we act different than apes mean we couldn't each have evolved from a common ancestor? Al?

Al-D, my ol'friend:

what are the are apes=ten commandment's??? do apes hire lawyer's??

I take this to mean that you think that apes are less gullible and more civilized than humans. :)

Best Wishes,,,,

When species evolve,

I assume you refer to macro evolution and not micro. With that in mind, don't you mean IF they evolve. Unless you have found the long fabled 'missing link' somewhere recently?

they often evolve new behaviors.

OFTEN??? Prove it big mouth! You can't even show one case of macro evolution to prove that it 'sometimes' happens let alone happening so frequently to prove such a ridiculus claim as 'often'.

I'm calling you out!

"I'm calling you out!"

Yeah, right.

Since the theory of the evolution of species has been examined, debated, accepted by over 99% of biologists, tested against the fossil record, by embryology, by comparative anatomy, and upheld by all of these various disciplnes for over 140 years, I would prefer not to go over all that ground with you until you make some small effort of your own. Besides "calling me out", that is.

If evolution is wrong, tell me how you think species came to be. I promise, I would be fascinated to hear your competing theory.

Nip,

Please note that even YOU refer to it as the "Theory" of evolution. When scientists refer to it as the "Law" of evolution, you will no longer appear as close-minded as you do now.

-- Nipper's (overreaching@here.donchathink?), June 28, 2001.

"...even YOU refer to it as the "Theory" of evolution."

How do teachers do it? I mean, they must have the patience of saints.

Do yourself and me a favor, guy. Read some of the thousand and one threads that have already been dragged on at great length on this same subject. Go hang around at the talk.origins Usenet newsgroup for a few months. Educate yourself about science in some small way. Start by looking up what constitutes a "theory" and what consitutes a "law".

Come back when you have a clearer idea what is what. I am sorry, but I just washed the car your teeth are scuffing the finish on my tires. My patience is a little thin today. If a Jehovah's Witness came to the door I'd take the pamphlet, say "thank you" and close the door.

Thank you.

[waving hand wildly]

Mr. Nipper! SIR!"

What can I do to get a better grade? ;)

Jonathan, Do you think posting that at TB2000 would have helped ease the concerns of the people there, back then? Or did you try?
Reading it must make it look so clear to them now. ;o)

Jonathan

-A computer glitch didn't bring about the end of civilization. Thankfully, we never got to test the panicking people part of the hypothesis.-

You just haven't been looking hard enough. So Y2K is gone; but the spirit is still there. There are secret concentration camps, martial law, chemtrails, secret societies, GMO's etc. Y2K wasn't anything more than the "fright of the moment".

May the panic be with you.

Only the subject has changed. It is the same cast with a new script. :) It will give CPR years of work.

Best Wishes,,,,
