Zenden ... again

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Zenden wants to leave Barcelona because he isn't playing regular football.

Newcastle are the only club that can GUARANTEE him a start as we don't have any other left wingers. Roma, Lyon and Deportivo all want him as back up. Where would you go if you were him? OK so no Champs League, but a good chance of laying in the UEFA cup, and we will be able to give him a good wage.

He'll sign for us , I'm sure of it.

i don't he ever will. Hope i'm wrong.

Lyon can't offer him 1st team football? you have to be joking??

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Are we certain that we are the only side that can guarantee first team footie? If that's what he wants and we fit the bill better than any other side he may just come. I think he may end up going back to Holland. That could be more definite.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

I hope he comes, but i think he'll plump for Roma.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

He could end up being a bit part player in rome again....they've better players than barca ;)

Apparently Forientina have filed for bankruptcy. Have they any good players we can buy at a knock down price. AM

As we saw when we lost to Roma 1-0 over 2 legs (dubious penalty) ;-) Ok, they're very good really.

I'm not sure I want Zenden if his agent is his dad. Family and business do not mix well together. I can foresee only problems

As Steve pointed out the other day, Zenden isn't rated highly here, but i think he'd shine brightly in our side. The scary thing is the article in the ronny hints that alternatives are in the mix if Zenden falls through. Who could it be? Remember Bobby said proven premier class, so, lets think, erm Bellamy, Elliot and Murray (defence, midfield, striker) all obviously premier class, who could they be thinking of in a similar vein? John Solako? Jeff Whitley? I say get Daveed back. At least Robbie will feel at home!

Zenden would be a great signing: I can't believe how negative people have been about him. (That doesn't go for Bellamy.) He won't come, though, we're small-time. As for Fiorentina, Chiesa is still a great striker under-rated in his homeland, but he won't come either. Shame.

That's amazing if Fiorentina have filed for bankruptcy....where'd this story come from? what is likely to happen to the team etc?

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Ah thats how you spell it!!

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Hehe...I hadn't noticed :))

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

BBC pages carry the story. Rui Costa is there to be sold along with Toldo.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Will they get sold at public auction? I can see hefty baliffs carrying away the team in a dodgy Ford Transit

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Hmm is that why Barca pulled out of the transfer deal? so they can get him cheap/free when Fiorentina go under? I said at that time that I thought something smelt wrong about Barca pulling out of Toldo like that....

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Rui Costa and Nuno Gomes are both Portugese. Did either/both ever play under YBR when he was there???

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Re Fiorentina, a salutory tale if there ever was one and I'm sure they won't be the last 'big' club to find themselves in this situation.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

No they won't....

Still wondering what the implications are??? if they're auctioned to the highest bidder what happens if the players don't want to join that club?

Is it possible that a club (ooh lets say Barcelona!)....put in a 5 mill bid for Toldo....and lets say 6 other clubs bid more than that....the player rejects all of their terms but chooses to go with barca, would it be true that Fiorentina would have NO CHOICE but to accept that offer?

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

they bagged 30mil for batti 2 years ago aswell.ouch

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

It is a tricky one. Will the bankcruptcy courts count players as part of the assets, or will be they be obliged to honour outstanding contracts? At a guess, they will be considered assets and sold to the highest bidder. Depends on the amount of debt too.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Why did they go bust? Grredy players demanding too much? Greedy fans demanding over priced players?

We should learn by their mistakes.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

overpriced players...

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

"Fiorentina and its auditors categorically deny they have filed for bankruptcy," the club said on its official website.

Apparently one director is spreading some bullshit about the club.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Hmm...more and more interesting :))

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

maybe barça are saving toldo to net him later?

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Roma will offer him £60k pw (net of tax, of course) and give him a firm promise of a first team role. He'll sign, then Roma will do exactly as they see fit. That's football - a game populated and run by scum-bags.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

.... meant to add:
While I'm obviously not impartial, the very best thing a player like Zenden could do is come to a real club like the Toon.
He would be virtually guaranteed 1st team football, be idolised by the fans, be very well paid, be handily placed for flights home, and be regularly in the face of his international manager via TV.
If he can actually be brave enough to truly put his career first, then he should resist the sheisters in Rome and Parma and come to SJP. Easy decision, once the priorities are firmly sorted.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

and then there are agents who will tell him otherwise ...go for the'Champions league and a big pay packet'...and thats his dad.

Silly boy. Listen to Clarky's wise words.
