Ron Turner's Sony Vaio

greenspun.com : LUSENET : DONCIO Leading Edge Services : One Thread

The following is an error message I am getting when I log on to Ron's machine...

The system has detected an IP address conflict with another system on the network. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.

When I go to the event log, I get another conflict message, noting a MAC address for the machine in conflict with ip address 164.224.234.230 Release and renew gives me the same ip address.

I also added the machine to a workgroup, deleted its name from active directory and then readded it to DONCIO. no luck.... ?

Remove the wireless ethernet adapter. This will leave only one adapter on the machine. Do not plug a cable into the machine. Reboot. Getting a new DHCP should fail and the device should get a 169.XXX.XXX.XXX address. Let me know ...

Lisa, how about this. Try to disconnect the ethernet cable from the ethernet interface. Then release and renew the address. Since the cable is disconnected, the machine should auto configure an IP address if 169.XXX.XXX.XXX. After the 169.XXX.XXX.XXX address is assigned, try the release and renew again.
