Mine eyes have seen the glory

Come on: let's all cheer up. Firstly, if the fans are feeling so down, a poor season may be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Secondly, last season was an all-round crap Premiership season. We are not alone in being disappointed. Thirdly, last season was no worse than the years we got to the Cup Final in terms of our league performance. Last season, we saw the team without the lens of the Cup Final to distort the true picture, nothing more, nothing less. Fourthly, we DO have some good bairns. Fifthly, NEWCASTLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED. Sixthly, we all could have been born Makems which would be repulsive as well disappointing.

Furthermore, though we love the team, we love the craic in the pub before and after the game and seeing everyone: this won't go away no matter how badly we play.

Dougal - you forgot the mandatory disclaimer. Being away from work so long is eventually having it's effect on you ;-)

Well said Dougal. Worry is a pointless emotion, anticipating and experiencing the pain of disaster BEFORE it has happened. We are so far unbeaten in the 2001/02 season and are still in all the competitions for which we are entered. This should be a very positive time and it is to be hoped it becomes more so.

Dodgy lyrics, Dougs...ah, f**k it. Let's kill some rebel scum! Yeehah!

BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC
(JULIA WARD HOWE)

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on.

cho: Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps
l can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on.

cho:

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnish`d rows of steel,
"As ye deal with my contemners, So with you my grace shall deal;"
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel
Since God is marching on.

cho:

He has sounded from the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

cho:

cho:

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

Terrific words actually - almost uplifting. But not quite.
