Is Murray the new Des Hamilton

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Seems he is going to sign. Left Carlisle in a £300,000 deal which was some fee for a younglad leaving Carlisle. Former U21 international.

Seems they are relying on getting him fit to make it a worthwhile move. This new Doctor has mission impossible.

Words escape me - I know, for once!

So now we have Murray, the worst signing ever for NUFC. Well Bellamy will be relieved to hear it after yesterday's lambasting. Anyone remember Maric, Marcy, Pistone, JDT, Andreas, Dessy etc?

The difference is that we all thought the others were going to be great, we aren't even starting form an assumpion that these players can kick a ball

Murray, like Craig HAD a good reputation. If they continue as they have done, we are totally shagged. If they live up to the faith shown in them we are going to be somewhere nearer Leeds than not. But i have serious doubts.

I feel we're about 100 miles away from Leeds, and always will be

From the manager who brought you Fumaca, prepare to be not very surprised at all come to think of it.

I would love, just love to be convinced that Paul Murray will become the new Rob Lee. However - let's be totally realistic about this - what are the chances of a 24 yr-old, who couldn't even command a regular place at QPR, turning out to be a revelation; even disregarding his apparent proclavity for being perpetually injured?

We do lack young, in-house m/f talent, so there is undoubtedly scope for bringing in some raw talent in this area, but you have to question the chances of this one proving even moderately successful.

One perceived advantage is that he comes 'free'. However, I would argue that the associated 'opportunity cost' involved for the Club is enormous, and that in the long run, £3 million spent on say David Prutton, or someone similar, would be a much better investment.

Yet again, I hope I'm wrong.

Well given the lashing that £6million on a current Welsh International brings you, what would be the reaction to spending £3-4 million on Prutton?

Even this Dutch lad, Mendes, £3million for him is a huge risk. He's never played anywhere near the standard of football akin to the Premiership, yet he's the new Riikjard so that is okay.

Roll on the start of the season so we can make a judgement for ourselves.

Apparently the malkums have bought the new Japp Stam.

Can any team have so many fuglies at any one time?

DeB,
I said "....£3 million spent on say David Prutton, or someone similar..."

I didn't say Prutton, because I've never even seen the lad play, and assume someone at SJP is looking around at the developing talent and making informed decisions - as with David Mendes.

Spoke to a QPR fan at the weekend who really rated Murray - he's had a terrible run of injuries and consequently little chance to shine. We've got him on a free so nowt to lose really.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

My QPR mates says the oppostite so we'll just have to wait and see ;))

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

We've got him on a free

Well then, he's manifestly NOT the new Des Hamilton is he?

:-)

Is this Murray bloke a central midfielder?

Why do we need another squad player in that position?

I would have thought that Speed and Dyer would fill that position, with Lee, Acuna and Bassedas also available in that position. Behind them there are the youngsters of Green, Kerr and McClen to fall back on, so why do we need Murray?

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Because he's a left sided attacking midfielder apparently.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Ah, a bit like Gary Speed then but not as good and injury prone.

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2001

Murray was always highly rated. Maybe he'll come good. If we'd paid 6 million pounds for him then that would be another matter...
