Screw mount to SL/SL2 Adapter?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I'm considering using my 20mm Super-Takumar(Pentax)lens on my SL2 and SL. The thread on the lens is 42mm. Is there an adapter, either by Leitz or otherwise that will allow this connection of lens and body?

The short answer is: NO. The mount register is different. The M42 screw mount is closer to the film plane than the Leica reflex. This will result in the lens not focusing to infinity; and, because it is a super wide angle lens, it will be focused very close indeed. Here are the specifics on lens mount registers:

Now having said all that, it can be done but you would have to machine the M42 lens shorter before attaching a R bayonet to it. These folks, and I am sure others, can do the work but it will not be inexpensive:

A couple of years ago I Herb Zimm. work on my Nikon F2A to convert its lens mount so that it can now work with Leica R lenses. Works well, although of course there are a few gotchas - see the www page I set up at .
