"We started the game sluggishly, but went ahead with a terrific near post header by Speed from a Solano corner. The rest of the first half was utterly forgettable, with our short passing dreadful, and Goma and Hughes struggling to get to grips with Aloisi and Bellamy. " - Clarky

"It's only Coventry's inability to finish that prevented them from getting any points " - Ciara

" Coventry cut through them like butter, leaving the defence, which wasn't at its best, looking even more vulnerable. " - Dougal

" Better finishing would have seen them win 4 - 3. " - Tony

To me it looks like we all saw Coventry ripping us apart and then cocking it up. Putting a positive spin on this Bellamy is going to create chances for us.

Don't you get the heebie-jeebies about how Bellamy needs someone else to do the finishing and yet his great weapon is meant to be his pace? Which one of our strikers is supposed to get to the goal as he reaches the byeline? Is this the guy who is meant to race through after the ball when it has bounced forward 20 yards from Cort's silky first touch?

It's so horrible. Our great finishers can barely break into a trot, our pacy players can't shoot, our tallest players can't head the ball and the best passers hide when we're in posession.

Your unerring analysis and concise presentation are true BUT we are of course, a MASSIVE club! Us!

I will not prejudge our new signings.
I will not prejudge our new signings.
I will not prejudge our new signings.

If this is how most Newcastle fans are feeling right now, the atmosphere at SJP next season is going to be the dullest it has ever been.

Sadly Paul this is not a new feeling and I'm one of only 4 singers in the block of 25 in my immediate vicinity. I reserve the right to voice concerns amongst my fellow fans but sing lustily for the team while they are playing, especially when they deserve it. It cannot have gone unnoticed that the atmosphere last season was shocking with most chanting being about dislike for our friends down the road. This was because the lads we came to see didn't seem inclined to play for us and nothing else was left. Their being shite makes me feel depressed, it isn't my depression making them shite. Cause and effect, horse before cart.

Well said your royal Softness. Agreed

All my life up to 1996 the supporters were better than the team. That year they matched us, nearly.

Last year we were back to dross of, well any time apart from that blip that was Keegan.

The general conclusion was that no matter what we (the fans) did we knew the players were hopeless and it wouldn't have helped.

The thing is, the supporters and the ground are crying out for a bit of greatness and we get rubbish served up almost weekly: in fact, dodgy refereeing decisions are about as exciting as it gets and that is what we normally react to as a crowd. Worry not - SJP will be like it was when we were bairns when we get the team we deserve.
