American chestnut restoration-Joy/Julie?

Joy or julie...a while back one of you had told me abt. an American chestnut in Wisconsin that you knew about.I finally remembered to check on it and here's what I found out from our state's coordinator of the restoration project......

There is not an active American Chestnut Foundation chapter in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is outside the natural range of the American Chestnut but there have been American Chestnuts planted in Wisconsin which have survived partially due to their isolation from infected trees.

Some websites on American chestnut are:

http://chestnut.acf.org/

http://www.ppws.vt.edu/griffin/accf.html

http://www.ncnatural.com/NCNatural/trees/chestnut.html

http://www.utc.edu/~jcraddoc/chestnutlinks.html

For the rest, the American Chestnut Foundation has developed a 99% genetically true but blight resistant American Chestnut and is now actively searching for "Mother Trees" see this article Chestnut Restoration http://www.kentuckyconnect.com/heraldleader/news/062101/statedocs/21chestnut.htm

I have been following the restoration efforts for 20+ yrs and this is a very exciting developement to me.If you know of any AM. chestnuts in your area, let me know and I'll pass on the info.

I went to a WV Div of Forestry sponsored workshop a few weeks ago and was given a tree that shows blight resistance. It is an American chestnut. I have 7 Chinese chestnut, but can't wait to see how this one grows. Thought you might want to include WVU in your database.

It was me, Sharon. I think you gave me the contact info and I passed it on to the friend who told me about the tree. But I'll have to check back in my emails and see exactly what did happen. Too tired tonight!
