Big Rig Driver Runs Amok At Airport The Associated Press Jun 22, 2001 : 10:15 pm ET

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- A truck driver smashed through an airport fence Friday, sped up and down a runway, rolled the 18-wheeler on its side before stripping off his clothes and trying to set his truck on fire, authorities said.

The wreckage of the truck which was hauling ceramic toilet parts was strewn across the main runway at Long Beach Airport, forcing authorities to divert air traffic to a secondary runway. No one was injured and only one American Airlines departure had to be delayed, airport spokeswoman Angela O'Bryant said.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, was arrested and bomb-sniffing dogs inspected the truck before it was righted.

The incident began in mid-afternoon with a hit-and-run accident near the airport, some 25 miles south of Los Angeles.

Deputies chased the truck as it weaved along the runway at speeds up to 70 mph, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Richard Westin.

The man was arrested for investigation of hit-and-run driving and assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken to a local hospital for observation.

OKAY!!!! What the heck is going on? All these wierd things (mostly terribly bad) are happening around the same time. Someone slip something into the water supply or what?

We've got the crane guy in Atlanta.

We've got the tragic deaths of kids in Houston.

We've got parents kidnapping school officials.

Now we have a guy driving a truck on a runway, ripping his clothes off, and trying to set fire to his truck.

Don't think I even want to consider what is next.....

Uh, it's almost midnight. Our houseguest who was supposed to be coming in at 5PM, is still on the runway (we think) at the other airport where he had to change planes. My husband has the kids with him, they were all excited about going to the airport. Airport is far enough away that it wasn't worth bringing them back home (we thought), but then that was when it was only supposed to be a two hour delay.

We're certainly having a high strangeness quotient. And now they just changed the ETA to 1AM. Damn.

And two more black bears turned up today. Turns out they're in someone's back yard, less than 1/4 mile from us, right here in beautiful downtown Durham. The media was on the scene PDQ, as were the Orange Co. animal folks (who know about these things) and Wildlife, so the bears were not shot this time; instead they were allowed to hide. Surely, they'll move on during the night, they're just passing through, for heaven's sake.

And someone's new $1.5m house, containing the family's Old Salem antiques, burned down because the closest water source was 3.5 miles away. You would think. . .

911 has been VERY active in Durham over the past few days, much more so than usual.

Time to check an astrology site, I think, lol!

Just woke up to some news about a man with a high powered WWII rifle going down behind houses last night shooting at people. He killed at least one, another is in the hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. The shooter is dead, but they are unsure if he is dead at his own hands or those of the police as they fired at him.

Plus, some kid exploded a 'military type device' in the road in front of his house. Rattled some windows, and the police think that it may have been altered. Where did a kid get a 'military type device' anyway? They said it was probably stolen.

correction on the 'military type device'... it wasn't a kid that exploded it, but some 25 y/o punk. Seems that kids were out playing in the neighborhood when it happened. I'm getting to the age where 25 still is a kid.

I checked my ephemeris and here are the current planets that are retrograde. As you can see, a lot of things are working "backwards". I would bet there are other things happening as well, but this is certainly enough to make my day :(

Mercury (communications) is retrograde until the 28th.

Mars (fire, war, high energy) is retrograde until July 2nd.

Uranus (the unexpected, changes)is retrograde until Oct 30.

Neptune (things unseen, occult, religion) is retrograde until Oct 17.

Pluto (breaking down and re-building)is retrograde until Aug 23.

So just about all the malefic planets are retrograde. Not very encouraging. I'm glad I don't have an ephemeris for this year, otherwise I'd be spending a lot of time diagramming. All you folks out there who are scoffing--not so fast. It won't hurt to be a little extra careful until after July 2. It could mean the difference between a kitchen fire and a house fire. Just doublecheck stuff, which is not a bad idea anyway.

Uranus is a COOL planet! I'm having a GREAT time. But then, I have lots of planets in Aquarius. "Weird" for most of you is probably "normal" for me, unless I relocate to Cary, of course. (smile)

Note to OG: I'm teasing you about Cary because some friends of friends of friends (got that?) who were Central Ohioans just relocated there, and they aren't suffering any culture shock. I explained that was only because there are places in Central Ohio that serve grits with each meal. The main difference is that ours are "instant." (heh-heh)
