What's the title of the story with the eye monster?

A friend was telling me about a Poe story about "the rich man who escaped the black plagued city to live in a country home. He sees a monster out in the hills... only to later find out that the monster is a tiny thing living in his eye." It totally intrigued me and I want to read it, but he doesn't know the title of it. Can anyone tell me?

"The Sphinx" (1846) can be accessed online at www.eapoe.org. Contrasts the moody dreamer with the analytic man. The riddle solved, science wins. Interesting variant on his tales of terror/detection.

The sphinx is a metaphor to show that there is not more than meets the eye, but just the opposite, that the view of fiction is within oneself, and not in the brief posibilities of the context. It is for him who searches to find it in his mind. (As far as Iam concerned) Mail me to make some comments on the best writer ever!!!!!!!!
