It's also inexpensive and can be done on a limited budget. So, what do you need and how does it work?

For starters you're going to need a netcam. One alternative is to purchase a NannyCam from EarthCam. The WebCamStore has a complete list of solutions ranging from $99 to $3,500.

Read this article to learn how to set up a netcam on your computer. Next, it's time to pick up a software package that will let you stream the video over the Internet.

VideoWebPage from iVista comes complete with your own webpage hosted on Inetcam.com, where you can view live video transmitted from your home computer. It also features a scheduler, wireless ability, recording, and a 30-day free trial support. The basic software package costs $19.99.

The site also features a complete list of netcam software packages if you'd like to have more security features, such as motion detection and multiple video feeds. Go here to learn more.

Another software option is Eyes&Ears. This software integrates your netcam into a surveillance system. It is sound- and motion-sensitive, and it automatically captures changes. The program can email you the pictures it creates when it detects movement or will post them to an FTP site you've already created. It's shareware that is free to try or $21.95 to keep. The trial version will only capture 15 minutes of video at a time.

An additional alternative we found is TeVeo. All you need to do is register with its website and choose whether you'd like your netcam to be public or private. It's that easy. Once you sign up you'll be able to view a live stream of inside your home on the website. The best thing is, the site doesn't charge a single cent for this service.
