greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

hey folks and every one who wrote me regarding my very first posting . . . thanks. i am pretty computer illiterate. other boards i've posted on, kept the name secret and you had a psuedonym, which for me has always been April Weaver, because i am a basket weaver. i am also pretty innocent about bad internet people. so i am extremely trusting. i don't know how to make a new email address, i reckon sharon will teach me soon. i'd love to give you guys my web page address so you can see pictures of my baskets, but now you'all have scared me. how can i do it so no one will find me? i make odd sort of egg baskets mostly, using some natural material, some reed. it is a craft that has consistently kept my interest, which for my little adhd heart says something. if anyone is a basket maker out there, let me know and if anyone is interested in making baskets let me know.

Hi Jennifer,

I've been posting to the countryside forum for around a year and a half, maybe two years, and I've been posting here since it started. I have always used my home or business email address and my real name, and I've NEVER gotten anything nasty. Although I have heard that many on the board have gotten nasty mail or viruses, I'm not sure it's really prevalent enough to be terribly worried about. (Just watch - now I'll get a virus and have to recant everything.)

If you ARE worried, go to www.yahoo.com and click the "check mail" button at the top of the screen. This will take you to a page where you can sign up as a new user. They will let you choose a screen name, and you'll be all set up with a booger-proof (technical term ;-D ) email account.

HI Jennifer I think that the people who were causing trouble on the other forum are gone now. As far as I know, no one has ever had any problems from posting on this forum. I would really like to see your baskets. The only thing that I do that comes close to basketmaking is making St Brigit crosses and I just make those out of pipecleaners or drinking straws. It is traditional to make them out of reeds, so maybe you could give me a few tips. If you don't want to post the address to your website you can email it to me. This is my real email address.

Love the "booger-proof"! Just say NO to boogers! That's why I went and got a yahoo email addy. It's a bit harder to check, but I know it's safer that way. Get you one Jennifer, and get a fire wall if you feel a little wary. They are free and easy to download and install. You sound very talented by the way Sharon speaks of you.

beautiful baskets jennifer, I make egg baskets and a few other types, but nothing compared to yours!! Are you splitting your own reed?? Sherri is suppose to come and visit me and teach me to make soap. It would be fun to make the basket, soap, candles etc. for a gift basket. Need to refresh my basket making skills though. did you have a local teacher??

thanks for the vote. i like my baskets, im glad you do. i took a basket making class from a lady named jannine musser, and made a little woven basket. then i went to the library and got books out and made baskets.

diane, i don't cut down the white oaks and hickorys that are used for the "real" reed. the reed i buy, i buy from suzanne moore's basket supplies. you can only make two maybe three baskets out of one tree and i think that is ecologically unsound. my curvey handles are made out of sourwood vine which grows up and chokes out the good trees. grows a lot faster than i can use it. i also use honeysuckle, willow, cattails, yukka plant and kudzu (got lots of it)

Your daughter did a really good job on that web page.Loved the pictures.Good quality.Who took them? If I ever get far enough ahead to have inventory,I'll have to look her up. Like that is ever going to happen ;0) You have far more energy than I.

You need to update your festival listing tho! You don't go to Hillbilly Days anymore. Oh Cindy,Jennifer had her booth at the Hatfield & McCoys Reunion down at Pikeville last year.Did you go?

If you need help on setting up an account, give me a ring. After dark is best, but no garantee! Really hard to get a hold of us, in summer.Better yet email me and I'll call you back.

Sherri-I love the twisty handles, too. Jenifer is very talented, and shares her gifts with others here, too. An asset to our community.

Jennifer,I'd love to get Debbie to post here. She has lots to share too.I love talking to her. She came up to the Organic Gardening club meeting. Her and her mom.I was so glad they did.Met some new folks there, too, from down in Wolfe county. Come to the next one,if you can.A really nice bunch of people.

But after I told Debbie all abt. what went on over on the other forum, she's too scared! She just laughs when I bring it up.

Later
