euro giants??????????????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Hmmmm all the badger boards have sprung to life. I wonder why? Have you noticed that the chronicle is trying to make out that you beat us into europe? Is that the case? Or did we merely knock it back earlier in the year regardless of the circumstances? Does this make you a smaller club than Southampton and Charlton as they both wanted nowt to do with it either? I really hope you do well as no way can your squad sustain a long cup run,a league cup run,fa cup run and still put up a fight in the premier league. This may smack of jealousy but is one possible night in the san siro worth a season of struggle? Of course it may not come to that but whilst i can understand your glee in getting a chance you should still have a doubt in the back of your mind.Oh and if you are going to Poland ,watch out as they are fucking animals over there. Stabbings etc are rife ,especially when the english are in town.

After the crap season we just went through Kev, it is a blessing, and with the "nowt happening" on the trnsfer front, it may well be all we have to look forward to (except for beating your lot twice) :-)

Sorry, I was too lazy to start another thread although I was gonna use the words: "Euro Giants AND MADNESS":

< BARCELONA has given Tottenham Hotspur defender Sol Campbell 48 hours to decide if he wants to swap White Hart Lane for the Nou Camp and a five-year contract worth a staggering £200,000 a week, reported Soccernet.

The take-it-or-leave-it offer dwarfs the £65,000 a week the 26-year-old England defender could expect realistically if he decides to stay in the English Premiership.

It seems to be an attempt to bounce himinto making the switch to Spain.

Campbell's wait-and-see attitude in the face of previous efforts to force his hand - primarily by Arsenal - has paid off with the escalating bidding war.

Barca's latest pitch means that he could collect an amazing £50 million over five years.

The offer seems almost impossible to turn down, especially following Barcelona's last-gasp qualification for the Uefa Champions League next season, when goals from Brazilian Rivaldo gave it a 3-2 win over Valencia.

Campbell, still on holiday in the Algarve, is believed to be talking to his advisers.

Despite the obvious appeal of joining the world's biggest club, one concern for the England international might be uncertainty over the shape of the Barcelona side under new coach Carlos Rexach, appointed after the recent departure of Llorenc Serra Ferrer.

Earlier reports say Spanish giant Real Madrid is also interested in the player.>>

Ludicrous, absolutely ridiculous, what next?...:-(

yeah, but it's only a few k more than you get a week bud, what are you getting so uppity about? :-)

Kev - that seems to be three threads you or your anonymous associates have started on the subject of the Intertoto. You seem a lot more bothered about it than us. And by the way, I was in Poland a few weeks ago and it was very nice. Not wearing my colours, admittedly.

Fact is, Kev, we can all get our passports out for more than the annual trip to Mallorca, however briefly. You can't.

Dougal, I remember this time last year and 1999, all the mags were extremely excited over the amount of £spend their club had made comparable with SAFC.

I fear "one-upmanship" is all NUFC fans have at the moment. I will stick with being quietly confident.

Bloody hell SuperK

If as you suggest next season we're attempting to "sustain a long cup run,a league cup run,fa cup run and still put up a fight in the premier league" then it'll be a year to remember!

ML3 - as far as I can make out there's nohting 'quiet' about any mackems confidence; every Wearsider I come across has already decided that Sunderland are going to finish comfortably higher than Newcastle. I remember lots of that 'quiet' confidence among Toon fans prior to the first derby last Season (myself included). Ironically, the result of that game was the difference between the 2 sides in terms of points total at the death - if we'd won that day both of us would have ended up on 54 points.

Sorry, is this any better?

I am confident we will finish above the mags

Now that we have the magnet of European football to look I am confident that Newcastle will attract a lot of world class players, and even more confident that the makems will be well beaten in August.

One thing I am certain of; we will do better than Sunderland In Europe this season (c:

Rik, beaten by who?

How would a Mackem know anything about getting into trouble in Europe?
